WESSON – Sophomore guard Trent Huchin pumped in a game-high 34points, including 8 treys, to power the Co-Lin Wolves to a 79-60win over the Delgado Community College Dolphins of New OrleansTuesday night. Hutchin, a 6-foot native of Baton Rouge, alsocollected 7 rebounds, made 3 steals and had 2 assists.

In the women’s game, Latoria Holder and Shareka Hunt came offthe bench to net 16 points each and direct the Lady Wolves to a72-40 victory over the Lady Dolphins. Holder also collected 4rebounds, made 5 steals and had 4 assists. Hunt was tops off thebackboards with 9 rebounds and 3 assists.

Co-Lin returns to action after the holidays with an afternoondoubleheader at East Mississippi on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009. Thewomen begin play at 2 p.m., followed by the men at 4.

Co-Lin 79, Delgado 60

“Hutchin hadn’t shot the ball well since the Northeast game,”said Co-Lin men’s coach Dennis Sims after the game. “Players hadgotten after him. Delgado didn’t get after him.”

In the first half, Delgado (4-12) took the lead and held onuntil the 11:30 mark when a trey from Hutchin put Co-Lin (6-6) up14-13 for its first lead in the game. With 10:17 left, Rob Wallacenailed a field goal to give the Wolves 16-15 lead.

At the half, Co-Lin led Delgado by 8 points, 41-33.

“Our energy level was low in the first half,’ said Sims. “Ourenergy level picked up in the second half.

Hutchin opened the second half with back-to-back field goals topush the Wolves lead to 45-33 with 18:29 left in the game. Near the12-minute mark, Hutchin unleashed 4 of his 8 treys to push Co-Lin’slead to 66-40 with 8:23 remaining.

Contributing to the Wolves’ win with 16 points, 3 rebounds and 3assists was Rob Wallace. Lewanski Newsome finished with 13 pointsand 5 rebounds.

For Coach Tommy L. Smith’s Dolphins, Jamill Sanders led with 18points and grabbed 5 rebounds.

Co-Lin 72, Delgado 40

“At times, we played well on defense,” said Co-Lin women’s coachGwyn Young. “We kept their (Delgado) field goal shooting to 27.3percent We outrebounded them (56-31) as well.”

It was Young’s 701st career victory at Co-Lin. He achieved the700th win last Saturday at Northeast.

Co-Lin (10-1) opened with an 8-0 lead before Delgado (5-10)broke the ice with a trey from Da Jean Jones at the 16:32 mark. TheLady Wolves took advantage a 4:44 minute cold spell by the LadyDolphins to take a 32-14 led with 8:10 left in the first half.

Co-Lin opened the second half with a 5-0 run for a 41-20 leadwith 18:05 remaining in the game.

“I was pleased with the leadership from our sophomores,” addedYoung. “I’m pleased with our reserves,” who scored 50 points lastnight.

Starting freshman guard Rachel Vigers finished with 8 points, 5rebounds and 2 steals for the Lady Wolves. Starting sophomore guardTeAirra Wilbert led with 6 steals, pulled down 4 rebounds had 4assists.

Delgado, coached by Edward Field, got 11 points apiece fromChristine Conner and Jamey Ellis.
