Wesson faces BC, Enterprise in finals

WESSON – The Wesson boys and girls play for the championship oftheir invitational tournament tonight. The Lady Cobras play BogueChitto at 6 p.m. and the Cobras tackle Enterprise at 7:30.

Wesson won Monday night’s semifinals games as the Lady Cobrasbeat 49-33 and the Cobras knocked off Cathedral 78-47. Enterprise’sboys advanced by beating Bogue Chitto 56-31 and the Bogue Chittogirls reached the title game with a 59-48 win over Pelahatchie.

The Enterprise and Pelahatchie girls play today at 3 p.m. in aconsolation game. Bogue Chitto meets Cathedral at 4:30 in aconsolation boys game.

In losers’ bracket girls games Monday, Loyd Star whipped MadisonSt. Joseph 38-14 and Cathedral outscored St. Aloysius 54-40. Inboys action, St. Joe beat Pelahatchie 64-50 and St. Aloysius dumpedPisgah 63-54.

The Lady Cobras (10-3) were directed by guard Macie Case’s 19points in the win over Enterprise. She also had 7 rebounds, 5steals and 4 assists.

Shauntay Walker followed Case with 7 points and 7 rebounds.

“We did not play our best ball,” said Wesson coach Hugh Webb.”As a team we didn’t execute our plays on offense or defense. Wemust do better against Bogue Chitto or we are in for a longnight.”

Enterprise (3-12) got 15 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals fromLacey Orr. Karla Beth Hux had 9 points and 6 rebounds.

The Cobras (10-3) were paced by Tyler Lumley’s 16 points and 6rebounds in the win over Cathedral. Kyle Cross and Josh Hood eachhad 11 points as the Cobras raced to a 45-25 halftime lead.

“We played better in the second half,” said Wesson boys coachRon Kessler. “Everyone scored tonight. We must be ready forEnterprise.”

Cathedral (2-11) got 16 points and 5 steals from DanielHuffines.

The Lady ‘Cats (12-2) were paced by Anisha Dillon’s 19 points inthe victory over Pelahatchie. Kellie Howard chipped in 12 points,13 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 assists. Shelby Tobias contributed 12points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals to the win.

“We started off playing well but then we got sloppy, said BCcoach Christi Terrell. “Turnovers hurt us in the second half.”

Pelahatchie was led by Alison Boyd’s 25 points. Andrea Kersh had10 points.

The Yellow Jackets (8-7) got 17 points from Kevin Perry and 16from Thomas Allen in the win over Bogue Chitto. Austin Everettscored 10 points as they erased a 16-4, first-quarter deficit.

“We came out asleep in the first quarter but after that we wokeup,” said Enterprise coach John Knight. “We got some easy basketsfrom our (defensive) pressure. I’m proud of my boys.”

Bogue Chitto got 9 points from Mike Harris. The Bobcats led24-22 at halftime.

The Lady Hornets (12-4) were led by senior center Haley Soneswith 15 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocked shots as they whipped St.Joe in a losers bracket game.

Shannon Chester had 10 rebounds and 6 assists for Loyd Star.Erica Smith had 7 rebounds and 5 steals for Coach Billy Vaughn’steam.

Vaughn said Friday’s home game against St. Andrew’s wouldfeature 4 games and start at 4 p.m.

Consolation Action

Pelahatchie’s boys were led by Darryan Ragsdale and LaBrandonHill with 16 points each as the Chiefs defeated St. Joe. A 24-pointeffort by Nick Pernell led St. Joe.

Sixteen points by Alex Lanier and 13 from Sean Johnson led St.Al past Pisgah’s boys. The Dragons were led by David Hamilton’s 30points. Jay Winsby had 13 points.

Twelve points by Ginny Daggett led Cathedral past St. Al’sgirls. Ana Perry had 11 points and Epiphany Jackson and Mae Durkin10 apiece in the win.

The Lady Flashes got 12 points from Tori Hines and 11 from KatieKoestler.
