Co-Lin splits with East Mississippi

SCOOBA – Freshman guard Latoria Holder fired in 14 points andgrabbed 5 rebounds Saturday night to power the Co-Lin Lady Wolvesto a 62-43 win over the East Mississippi Lady Lions in JUCObasketball action.

In the men’s game, the Lions dominated the backboards on theirway to an 80-64 victory over the Wolves. East Mississippioutrebounded Co-Lin 38-26.

These were the first games for Co-Lin following a two-weeklayoff.

Co-Lin returns to Mullen Gymnasium in Wesson tonight for adoubleheader with the Northeast Tigers. The women begin play at 5p.m. followed by the men.

Co-Lin 62, East Miss. 43

According to Co-Lin women’s head coach Gwyn Young, the LadyWolves (11-1) struggled offensively early on but made some goodplays late in the first quarter to take a 29-17 lead at halftimeover East Mississippi.

“In the second half, our defensive effort was good and we ranour offense more consistently,’ said Young. “We were able to makethem foul us.”

The Lady Wolves were 19 of 31 from the free-throw line in thesecond half and finished the game going 24 of 37.

“It was a good win starting the second quarter,” addedYoung.

Adding support to the Co-Lin win with 11 points was RachelVigers. Shareka Hunt netted 8 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.Collecting 10 rebounds and 5 assists was Yashunda Williams.

For the Lady Lions, Kottia White led the way with 12 points and4 steals.

East Miss. 80, Co-Lin 64

“East Mississippi played well and really got after us,” saidCo-Lin men’s head coach Dennis Sims. “We never responded anddefensively, it was one of our worst efforts.”

Co-Lin (6-7) trailed East Mississippi 52-33 at the half.

Directing the Wolves with 22 points and 3 steals was sophomoreguard Rob Wallace. Trent Hutchin fired in 15 points. Following with9 points and 6 rebounds was Lewanski Newsome.

East Mississippi was led by Coco Ware’s game-high 28 points.Netting 12 points and grabbing 6 rebounds was Darian Donald.Johnathon Harris finished with 11 points and 7 rebounds.
