A year after a 27-year-old Wesson man disappeared – never to beseen alive again – Lincoln County Sheriff’s Departmentinvestigators are still chasing clues and hoping for a lead thatbrings them to his killer.

“We’re still looking for information on Travis Henderson’smurder. Whether it’s small or big, it could mean something to ourinvestigation,” said Chief Deputy Johnny Hall. “We still need thepublic’s help.”

Henderson’s car was found at the corner of Bahalia and SunsetRoads in the northeast part of the county on Jan. 7, 2008. Hisfamily, worried because they hadn’t heard from him, reported himmissing the next day.

Officials combed the woods in the area several times in thefollowing months, turning up no trace of Henderson. Finally, hisbody was found on Thorn Trail, just a few miles from where his carwas abandoned.

Hall said he and other investigators have interviewed multiplewitnesses and suspects, and still Henderson’s murder remains amystery.

“We’ve talked to several, several people from all sorts ofdifferent leads, and we know one day one of them will end up beingsomething,” he said. “But we need the ears and the eyes of thepublic to really help us find the truth.”

MBI and the Brookhaven Police Department have remained activelyinvolved with the sheriff’s department in the investigation. Hallsaid the probe continues not simply to find a killer, but to giveHenderson’s family some long-awaited answers.

“There’s no justice in murder,” said Dot Catchings, Henderson’smother. “You didn’t just hurt Travis, you hurt his whole family, and all his friends.”

Hall said investigating authorities have kept that fact inmind.

“His mother lost a son, his kids have lost a father, his familyhas lost someone they can never replace,” he said. “Whateverhappened that night, it wasn’t so bad that he should have had tolose his life over it.”

Catchings, said Henderson’s son Austin, 4, still asks when hisfather is coming home.

“I want whoever did this to have to explain to Travis’ son wherehis daddy is,” she said. “He looks up at the moon and he says, ‘Iknow my daddy is up there with God, but when is he cominghome?'”

Jocelyn Jackson, Henderson’s sister, said every day is still astruggle for her. She said knowing her brother has been gone a yearhas been extremely hard.

“It’s been a whole year and I still wake up angry and I don’tknow who to address my anger to, and that’s the easy part,” shesaid. “The hard part is falling asleep every night knowing there’sstill no justice for Travis. It’s knowing that even though we’veburied him, we haven’t yet laid him to rest.”

Authorities believe Henderson was killed by someone he knew,Hall said, and that person and possibly others are still more thanlikely dealing with that fact.

“There is somebody in Lincoln County that has a conscience andknows about this,” Hall said. “I know whoever it is, you thinkabout it day and night, and we’re crying out to you to get in touchwith us and let us know what you know, no matter how big or howsmall.”

Hall said anonymous tips can be left with Lincoln CountyCrimestoppers, but that the sheriff’s department will also work onan anonymous basis if need be.

“Call us here and tell us what you know, we won’t even ask for aname,” he said.
