Services for Lee Newell, of Brookhaven, are 10 a.m. Monday, Jan.12, at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel on Natchez Drive with burialin Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation is Sunday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mr. Newell, 92, died Jan. 9, 2009, at G. V. (Sonny) MontgomeryVA Medical Center in Jackson. He was born in Lincoln County on May11, 1916, to William Decatur Newell and Martha Newell Newell.

He was a former salesman and former member of the Lincoln CountySchool Board. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, AmericanLegion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a U.S. Armyveteran, having served in the European Theater Operation. He was arecipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Donis T.Newell; his wife, Eloyce C. Newell; his sister, Amye Montgomery;and his brothers, Marion Newell, Burton Newell and RudolphNewell.

Survivors are his daughter and son-in-law, Linda N. and RudySmith, of Brookhaven; his son and daughter-in-law, Dale and RhondaNewell, of Carriere; his grandchildren, Andrew J. Smith, ofBrookhaven, and Erin N. Newell, of Carriere; and his sisters,Maebell Britt and Blanche Walker, both of Brookhaven.
