Officials said a Brookhaven man was injured in a shooting intown late Sunday night.

Brookhaven Assistant Police Chief Nolan Jones said JamesWashington, 38, was shot in the leg around 10:20 p.m. Sunday at hisresidence at 904 Independence St.

Hospital officials said Washington was treated at King’sDaughters Medical Center and released Sunday night.

Jones said police are still gathering information on theincident.

“I have to get him in here to get a statement today,” Jones saidMonday, adding that the wound was not life-threatening.

Jones said there are no suspects currently, nor is it clearwhether the shooting was accidental or intentional. Theinvestigation is ongoing.

“We should know more after we’ve really gotten to talk to him,”he said.

More information should be available as the investigationcontinues, Jones said.
