Lady Bears obtain revenge at Wesson

WESSON — The visiting West Lincoln Lady Bears put together astrong 12-3 lead in the first quarter and held off the Wesson LadyCobras for a 45-36 win Friday night in girls varsity basketballaction. The win avenged a home floor loss to Wesson last month.

Tuesday, Wesson visits Madison St. Joseph and West Lincolnentertains Dexter.

At halftime, West Lincoln commanded a 10-point, 25-15, lead overWesson. With 1:09 left to play, Wesson cut the deficit to 6 points,37-31. The Lady Cobras had fouled the Lady Bears down the stretchand were outscored 8-5.

“Defensively, we kept Wesson out of the offense they wanted torun,” said West Lincoln coach Lane Young after the win. “And wemade our free throws at the end.”

The Lady Bears were 9 of 10 from the free throw line and theLady Cobras finished 9 of 18.

Powering West Lincoln (11-9, 5-0) with 12 points and 4 stealswas Hannah Knouse. Tatianna Marshall followed with 10 points,netting 5 of 6 free throws. Julie Case netted 8 points and led offthe backboards with 7 rebounds.

“West Lincoln’s defensive press took us out of our syncoffensively,” said Wesson girls coach Hugh Webb. “We got frustratedand didn’t get the open shots. Their defense was thedifference.”

Wesson (15-5, 6-0) was led by forward Ann Shelby Davis with 18points and 7 assists. Shauntay Walker followed with 8 points andwas tops off the backboards with 11 rebounds. Grabbing 8 reboundswas Danielle Tadlock.

Junior varsity action

The Lady Cobras defeated the Lady Bears 28-20,

Wesson was led by Hannah Selman with 7 points followed by SummerRials with 5.

Katie Mullins led West Lincoln with 10 points. Netting 7 pointswas Karli Herrington.
