Loyd Star sweeps Enterprise

For three quarters, the host Enterprise Yellow Jackets stayedwith the undefeated Loyd Star Hornets. In the fourth quarter, LoydStar went on a 20-5 scoring spree to secure a key 63-43 Division6-2A win Tuesday night over Enterprise.

In the varsity girls game, the Lady Hornets produced a big thirdquarter and cruised to a 55-31 victory over the the LadyJackets.

Enterprise and Loyd Star have a pair of division games Fridaynight. The Jackets host the Wesson Cobras for 4 games, beginning at4 p.m. with the junior varsity girls. The Hornets invade Hinds AHSat Utica for 3 games, starting at 5 with the JV boys.

Loyd Star 63, Enterprise 43

The Hornets (20-0, 9-0) had their hands full with the Jackets(9-13, 2-6) for the first 3 quarters. Loyd Star led 17-7 in thefirst quarter, 28-24 at the half and 43-38 going into the finalframe.

“We went cold from the floor in the fourth quarter,” saidEnterprise first-year boys coach John Knight. “But I’m proud of mykids.”

Taylor Everett led the Jackets with 12 points. Russell Perry andAustin Everett followed with 10 points apiece.

“We didn’t play good for the first three quarters,” said LoydStar boys coach Gene (Moochie) Britt. “We went to a 1-3-1,half-court trap and got some defensive turnovers. I’m proud of theway we came back in the fourth. I’m glad we got the win. Enterpriseis playing good together.”

Ashton Fox directed the Hornets with 22 points, 5 rebounds, 5steals and 5 assists. Glenn Thomas fired in 17 points, made 6steals and 3 assists. Tops off the backboards was Joseph Shelbywith 11 rebounds.

Loyd Star had 31 rebounds and 21 steals in the game.

L. Star 55, Enterprise 31

The Lady Hornets (17-5, 6-3) led the Lady Jackets (7-15, 3-5)10-9 in the first quarter before taking a 10-point, 28-18, lead atthe half.

“We played good second and third quarters,” said Loyd Star girlscoach Billy Vaughn. “We picked up our press in the second and thirdquarters. That was the key.”

Shannon Chester powered the Lady Hornets with 22 points, 6rebounds, 5 steals and 5 assists. Erica Smith collected 11 points.Brandy Jackson pulled down 8 rebounds and made 3 steals. Leah Brittfollowed with 4 steals and 3 assists. Haley Sones blocked 2shots.

The Lady Jackets, coached by Jill Nations, were led by AmyLambert with 7 points.

Junior varsity action

The Loyd Star girls thrashed Enterprise 22-7.

Courtney Watts led the Lady Hornets with 7 points followed byJordan Williams with 5.

The Lady Jackets got 2 points each from Kaitlin Moak, C. JRutland and Sabrina Smith.

The Loyd Star boys knocked off Enterprise42-33.

Pacing the Hornets with 14 points was Keldric Smith followed byChase Catchings with 7.

Thomas Allen led the Jackets with 17 points.
