Co-Lin sweeps East Central in South Division twin bill

DECATUR – The Co-Lin Wolves and Lady Wolves swept a pair ofSouth Division basketball games from the East Central Warriors andLady Warriors Thursday night.

The Wolves (10-10, 4-3) were powered to the 72-43 win over theWarriors by sophomore guard Trent Hutchin who pumped in a game-high28 points and pulled down 4 rebounds. Hutchin scored 23 points inthe first half.

Freshman guard Rachel Vigers fired in 16 points to direct theNo. 8 nationally ranked Co-Lin women to a 66-54 victory over EastCentral. The Lady Wolves are 18-1 overall and are 7-0 in thedivision.

Co-Lin returns home Monday night to host the Southwest Bears.The women begin play at 6 p.m. followed by the men.

With the win, the Wolves are tied with Pearl River for thirdplace in the South behind conference leader Jones County and GulfCoast.

“We played our best game of the season,” said Co-Lin men’s headcoach Dennis Sims. “This was the best defensive effort of theseason for the Wolves. Not only in points allowed, but in opponentsfield goal percentage (32%).”

At halftime, Co-Lin led East Central by 12 points, 38-26.

Contributing to the Wolves’ win with 18 points was Rob Wallace.Netting 13 points was Terrain Sanders. Coming off the bench toscore 10 points and pull down 7 rebounds was 6-9 Dwayne Brown.

East Central (8-12, 3-4) was led by Devarus Walker and JoshLuckett with 10 points apiece.

Co-Lin 66, E. Central 54

” In the first half, we shot the ball well from the outside anddid a good job defensively,” said Co-Lin women’s head coach GwynYoung. “TeAirra Wilbert did a good job running the team and dishedout 4 assists (and made 4 steals). Rhonda Dumas shot the ballextremely well going 4/7 (2 points) and 1/1 (3 points) and 2/2(free throws) for 13 points. Dumas shot 46.9 percent in the firsthalf which is good for me.”

Co-Lin lead East Central 37-23 at the half.

“In the second half, we were able to maintain a double digitslead for the game,” added Young. “East Central made a few good runsbut we were able to score or make a defensive stand to stop theirscoring.”

Dumas collected 15 points and made 5 steals for the Lady Wolves.Shareka Hunt netted 11 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. LatoriaHolder finished with 10 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and made 3steals.

The Lady Warriors (15-5, 5-2) were led by Mystee Dale with 19points and 5 rebounds. Rashima Jenkins had a double-double, 10points and 10 rebounds.
