Wallace directs Pack

WESSON – Guard Rob Wallace called Monday night’s 77-58 victoryover Southwest Mississippi Community College a team effort.Wallace’s contribution included a crowd-pleasing 30-point outburst,including 5 treys, plus 6 assists and 6 rebounds in a packed MullenGymnasium.

“We played like a Wolfpack tonight,” said Wallace, a slender5-foot-11 sophomore from Baton Rouge. “The team was counting on meand everybody played together.”

Co-Lin (11-10, 5-3), winning its second straight South Divisiongame, shot 51 percent from the field against the archrival Bears.The Wolves produced plenty of string music as 4 players reacheddouble digits. Trent Hutchin sacked 15 points, Torrian Sanders 12and Dwayne Brown 10.

“We guarded better tonight and we outrebounded Southwest,” saidCo-Lin men’s coach Dennis Sims, reviewing his team’s effort. “Robgot 30 for us and Trent had 15. We had more balanced scoring withTorrian Sanders and Dwayne Brown in double figures.”

Sims said he had anticipated a strong challenge by Southwest,referring to the narrow 66-61, Jan. 8th win at Summit. “They had us10 at halftime down there and we won by five.”

Sims predicted his team would need another outstandingperformance against South Division leader Jones County JuniorCollege Thursday night in Mullen Gymnasium. “We will need our bestgame to beat them.”

Southwest (2-12, 0-7) continued to struggle through a rebuildingcampaign under head coach Bill Wallace. The Bears started stronglast night on a thundering follow dunk by Austin Holloway but theywere outscored 23-11 in the last 10 minutes of the first half asCo-Lin caught fire.

The Bears got 19 points and 8 rebounds from Chad Jones, a 6-5freshman from Amite, La. Otis Smith, a 6-4 sophomore guard fromMcComb, added 18 points and 6 rebounds.

Wallace sacked 16 of his points in the second half. He drained 3straight treys and a layup after Southwest reduced its deficit to 7points, 47-40. Following Wallace’s third trey, Brown scored on aputback, giving Co-Lin an 18-point, 64-46 bulge with 9:13 left toplay.
