Lady Cobras rip McLaurin

FLORENCE – Junior forward Ann Shelby Davis pumped in 16 pointsand made 5 steals to power the Wesson Lady Cobras in a 50-34Division 6-2A win over the McLaurin Lady Tigers Tuesday night inthe final regular game of the season.

In the varsity boys game, Michael Young’s game-high 32 pointssparked McLaurin to an 87-68 win over Wesson.

The Wesson girls, coached by Hugh Webb, improved to 22-5 on theseason and 11-1 in division play. The Lady Cobras are the top seedin the upcoming division tournament next week at Enterprise.

Contributing to the Wesson win with 11 points was junior guardMacie Case. Tops off the backboards with 7 rebounds was ShauntayWalker. Christina Fink followed with 6 rebounds. Six assists weremade by Ansley Schimmel.

McLaurin got 15 points and 10 rebounds from Teneka Green for adouble-double. Ariel Wilson finished with 10 points.

“We started out slow, like we wanted,” said Wesson boys coachRon Kessler. “Then, McLaurin went on a run. They are very athletic.We are still not understanding the importance of defense.”

Leading the Cobras (18-9, 5-7) with 21 points and 4 assists wasJosh Hood. Kyle Cross pumped in 13 points. Netting 11 points eachwere Cody King and Tyler Lumley who led off the backboards with 9rebounds.

The Tigers got 17 points from Reggie Williams. Ronnie Brown andSedrick Walker had 10 points apiece. Brown also grabbed 11 reboundsand had 6 assists.

Junior varsity boys

The Cobras knocked off the Tigers 45-38, powered by HunterHood’s 13 points. Scoring 12 points was Gib Britt followed by ZachFetcko with 8.
