Mary I. ‘Wyda’ Blackwell

Graveside services for Mary I. “Wyda” Blackwell, of McComb, are10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at Easthaven Cemetery in Brookhaven.

Visitation is Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Hartman-SharkeyFuneral Home in McComb.

Mrs. Blackwell, 86, died Feb. 4, 2009, at her residence. She wasborn in Lawrence County on March 29, 1922, to Alfred Sharp Boutwelland Mamie C. Wilson Boutwell.

She retired from AT&T as an operator. She was a member ofthe Pioneers of America. She was of the Methodist faith.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her five brothers; anda sister.

Survivors are a brother-in-law; a sister-in-law; numerous niecesand nephews; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; and numerousgreat-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

William Blackwell

Services for William Blackwell, of Covington, La., are 11 a.m.Saturday, Feb. 7, at New Zion Union M.B. Church in Bogue Chittowith burial in Bogue Chitto-Norfield Cemetery.

Visitation is Friday from 2 until 7 p.m. at Williams Mortuary inBrookhaven.

Mr. Blackwell, 73, died Feb. 2, 2009, in Covington. He was bornin Bogue Chitto on April 2, 1935, to J.C. Blackwell and MinnetteMcGee Blackwell.

He was a graduate of Lincoln County Training School. He was asawyer and employed with Gordon Redd Lumber Co. for 35 years. Mr.Blackwell served his country for three years in the U.S. Navy. Hewas a member of New Zion Union M.B. Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, LaverneHolmes Blackwell; his sisters, Nelma Edward, Mary Lou Brown andHilda Montgomery; and his brothers, James Blackwell and GarnerBlackwell.

Survivors are a son, William G. Blackwell, of Houston, Texas; adaughter, Penny L. Blackwell, of Bogue Chitto; a godson, VerricoLewis, of Bogue Chitto; his sisters, Mynell Holmes, Elnora Dorsey,both of Bogue Chitto, Velvelyn Foster and her husband, E.C., ofJackson; his brothers, Levan Blackwell and wife, Grace, of BogueChitto, Matthew Blackwell and wife, Bess, of Jackson, WesleyBlackwell and wife, Jessie Mae, of Springfield, Mass., James S.Blackwell, of Houston, Murray Blackwell, of Atlanta, Ga.; his 10grandchildren; his six sisters-in-law; his four brothers-in-law;and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Freddie Lee Brown

Services for Freddie Lee Brown, of Brookhaven, are 3:30 p.m.Saturday, Feb. 7, at Beulah Chapel M.B. Church in Brookhaven withburial in New Hope Church Cemetery.

Mr. Brown, 64, died Feb. 2, 2009, at Southwest MississippiRegional Medical Center in McComb. He was born in Lincoln County onAugust 17, 1944, to Winston Brown Sr. and Elizabeth HowardBrown.

He was a 1963 graduate of Alexander High School. He retired frommaintenance at Bogue Chitto Attendance Center. He was a member ofBeulah Chapel M.B. Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, HurbertBrown; and a sister, Dorothy Daniels.

Survivors are his wife, Retha Richardson Brown, of Brookhaven; ason, Freddie Mantell Brown, of Brookhaven; his daughters, JennyLynn McLaurin and husband, Majectic, of Seattle, Wash., ArlettaYvette Brown Forte and husband, Eric, of Brookhaven; his brothers,Winston Brown Jr., of Brookhaven, and Alphonse Brown and wife,Juanita, of Monticello; his three sisters, Margaret Jones andhusband, Joe, Hazel Varnell and husband, Wesley, all of Chicago,Ill., and Thelma Hooker, of Lancaster, Calif.; his six grandsons;and a host of godchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives,in-laws and friends.

Mrs. Davis, 60, died Feb. 3, 2009, at Forrest General Hospitalin Hattiesburg. She was born in Bude on June 27, 1948, to T.J.Rancifer and Mary Jane Sanders Rancifer.

She was disabled. She was a member of Kingdom BuildersMinistries in Picayune.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her sons, Jessie andClifford Rancifer; a brother, Curtis Rancifer; and a sister, LillieRee Thompson.

Mrs. Godbold, 83, died Feb. 4, 2009, at Beacham MemorialHospital in Magnolia. She was born in Franklin County on Feb. 10,1925, to George Gill and Leona Howard Gill.

She was a homemaker and for many years worked at Vest Shoes andFirst National Bank. She was a member of Centenary United MethodistChurch, where she was a member of Cecilian Circle and the J.O.Emmerich Sunday school class. She was a former member of St.Andrews United Methodist Church. She was also a member of theAmerican Legion Auxiliary and was very active in her children’s andgrandchildren’s activities.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, EarlPatrick Godbold; an infant son, Loubet Brock; her two brothers; andher two sisters.

Survivors are a son, Gill Godbold, of San Jose, Calif.; herdaughters, Becky Stewart, of Bentonville, Ark., and Jane Quin, ofMcComb; her two brothers, Clyde Gill, of Summit, and Chester Gill,of Metairie, La.; her four grandchildren; her twogreat-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sylvia Ann Case Harrington

Memorial services for Sylvia Ann Case Harrington, of Saraland,Ala., formerly of Wesson, are 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at SmithtownBaptist Church. Ascension Funeral Service is in charge ofarrangements.

Mrs. Harrington, 61, died Jan. 28, 2009, at Springhill MemorialHospital after a brief illness.

She was a native of Wesson. She married her husband, Johnny, onFeb. 26, 1967. Mrs. Harrington and her family moved to Saraland,where they reared their three children. She loved her family, herfriends, her flowers and her heavenly Father.

Preceding her in death were her father-in-law and mother-in-law,Garland and Katherine Harrington.

Survivors are her loving husband of 41 years, John P.Harrington; her children, Jaye Harrington and wife, Ashley, CaseyHobbs and husband, Rod, and Brandy Harrington; her sister, JanetCurrie and husband, Carey, of Wesson; her five grandchildren, Adam,Samantha, Addison and Bailey Harrington and Chaz Hobbs; her twofoster grandchildren, Margaret and Nohealani; a brother-in-law,Jimmy Harrington and wife, Donis, of Wesson; a sister-in-law, PatsyBerch and husband, Curtis, of Wesson; and her numerous nieces andnephews, all of Wesson.

Mr. Magee, 58, died Jan. 28, 2009, in Boyce, La. He was born inSontag on Oct. 16, 1950, to Robert Magee and Allie Mae BarnesMagee.

He was a 1968 graduate of Eva H. Harris High School. He was atruck driver for S&S Dragline in Brookhaven. Mr. Magee servedin the U.S. Army. He was a member of Pine Grove M.B. Church, wherehe served as assistant Sunday school superintendent.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his daughters, RaquelMagee and Stephanie Magee; and his brothers, Cal Robert Magee Sr.,Obie Howard Magee and Excell Magee.

Survivors are his wife, Catherine H. Arch Lamar Windham

Services for Arch Lamar Windham, of Bogue Chitto, are 2 p.m.Saturday, Feb. 7, at Macedonia Baptist Church with burial in thechurch cemetery.

Visitation is Friday from 5 until 9 p.m. at Brookhaven FuneralHome on Natchez Drive and Saturday 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at thefuneral home.

Mr. Windham, 82, died Feb. 3, 2009, at his residence. He wasborn in Warren, Ark., on March 6, 1926, to Arch Aaron and GussiePrice Windham.

He was reared by his grandmother, Betty McKeithen Windham, afterlosing his mother at age 6 and father at age 7. He attended Jena,La., public schools, but quit to work in a shipyard in Orange,Texas at the beginning of World War II. He served in the 137th U.S.Navy Construction Battalion. After the war, he came back to work asa roughneck for Big Chief Drilling Co. For several years he and hisfamily lived in several towns in Louisiana, Florida and Mississippiwhile managing drilling rigs for the H.L. Rowley Co. and RimrockTidelands Drilling Co. He and his family moved to Brookhaven in1959, where he worked for Teche Drilling Co. He also worked formore than 10 years as a drilling consultant for Web JayEngineering. After he retired from the oilfield, he worked with DayDetectives, Gatlin Corporation and Watts Pharmacy until his healthdeclined. He was a member of Halbert Heights Baptist Church inBrookhaven and later joined Easthaven Baptist Church inBrookhaven.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and a sister, HazleFrancile.

Survivors are his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Newell Windham; hissons, Mike Windham and wife, Sue, Jon Windham and wife, Tammy; adaughter, Brenda Windham Case and husband, Richard; a brother,Gillis Windham, of Magnolia; a sister, Madge Rose Ryland, ofPineville; his six grandchildren, Todd, Ben, Justin, Blake andCaleb Windham and Ana Case; and his three great-grandchildren,Chandler Case, Cameron Duncan and Laura Clare Windham.

The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Dena Jackson, Dr.Jeff Ross and the staff of the intensive care unit and the thirdfloor at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Brookhaven.
