Services for William Blackwell, of Bogue Chitto, are 11 a.m.Saturday, Feb. 7, at New Zion Union M.B. Church in Bogue Chittowith burial in Bogue Chitto-Norfield Cemetery.

Visitation is Friday from 2 until 7 p.m. at Williams Mortuary inBrookhaven.

Mr. Blackwell, 73, died Feb. 2, 2009, in Covington. He was bornin Bogue Chitto on April 2, 1935, to J.C. Blackwell and MinnetteMcGee Blackwell.

He was a graduate of Lincoln County Training School. He was asawyer and employed with Gordon Redd Lumber Co. for 35 years. Mr.Blackwell served his country for three years in the U.S. Navy. Hewas a member of New Zion Union M.B. Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, LaverneHolmes Blackwell; his sisters, Nelma Edward, Mary Lou Brown andHilda Montgomery; and his brothers, James Blackwell and GarnerBlackwell.

Survivors are a son, William G. Blackwell, of Houston, Texas; adaughter, Penny L. Blackwell, of Bogue Chitto; a godson, VerricoLewis, of Bogue Chitto; his sisters, Mynell Holmes, Elnora Dorsey,both of Bogue Chitto, Velvelyn Foster and her husband, E.C., ofJackson; his brothers, Levan Blackwell and wife, Grace, of BogueChitto, Matthew Blackwell and wife, Bess, of Jackson, WesleyBlackwell and wife, Jessie Mae, of Springfield, Mass., James S.Blackwell, of Houston, Murray Blackwell, of Atlanta, Ga.; his 10grandchildren; his six sisters-in-law; his four brothers-in-law;and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
