Services for John Ray Poole, of Monticello, are 2 p.m. Sunday,Feb. 8, at Monticello Baptist Church with burial in MonticelloMunicipal Cemetery. Wilson Funeral Home is in charge ofarrangements.
Visitation is Sunday from noon until 1:30 p.m. at the funeralhome.
Mr. Poole, 86, died Feb. 6, 2009, at Mississippi State Veteran’sHome in Jackson. He was born in Monticello on Oct. 12, 1922, toJohn Stephen Poole and Laverette Buford.
He graduated from Monticello High and Hinds Junior College. Heattended Mississippi State University and retired from MonticelloBank after 37 years. He was a member of Monticello Baptist Church,where he was a deacon and church treasurer. He was a U.S. Armyveteran of World War II.
Mr. Poole was also an alderman from 1957-1973. He was a memberof the Lions Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion,and helped raise funds for the Mississippi Society of CrippledChildren and Adults, Boy Scouts of America, Heart Fund, Cancer Fundand March of Dimes.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and his sister, FrancesP. Trotter.
Survivors are his wife, Elizabeth Godfrey Poole; his daughter,Cynthia Poole Barlow, of Terry; and one grandchild.
