Officials said a multiple-agency manhunt in Amite County endedin the apprehension of two men, one of whom is wanted formurder.
Amite County officials say Samuel Robinson, 27, of 1351 GreensParkway, Houston, Texas, is wanted on a murder warrant in anotherjurisdiction, while Lojuwan Tobias, 18, of 5838 Highway 33, Crosby,is being held for questioning after the two men were taken intocustody following an overnight manhunt.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop M Public Affairs Officer RustyBoyd said the manhunt started with a pursuit by the Gloster PoliceDepartment. He said Troop M got a call a little after 5 p.m. Fridayadvising that Amite County officials had a manhunt situation ontheir hands.
“They called out the special operations members out of ourdistrict to come to Amite County, and our SWAT team sat on the areaall night,” Boyd said.
Officials said bloodhounds from Angola State Prison in Louisianawere called in to help find the fleeing suspects. It was possibly acombination of MHP’s helicopters and the dogs, he said that finallyapprehended the men.
“This morning they started calling in fresh people and sometimebefore lunch they started checking on some houses,” Boyd saidSaturday. “Our helicopter did some flyovers over the area, and thatprobably helped (Robinson) stay in the area because he heard thehelicopter and he wasn’t going move. He evidently started movingand a dog caught a fresh trail, and the Angola people caught himsome time after 1 p.m.”
Gloster officials were unavailable for comment, and aspokesperson from the Amite County Sheriff’s Department was unawareof where Robinson’s murder warrant comes from, but Boyd said thatthe warrant definitely exists.
“Obviously we did confirm we had a murder warrant on him fromsomewhere,” he said. “If we were going to spend a lot of manpowerlike that in one area we had to confirm we had a reason. Wecouldn’t do it for just a suspended driver’s license orsomething.”
Meanwhile Tobias has not been charged, but officials said he isbeing held for questioning.
