Thomas Earl Allred

Thomas Earl Allred, 62, of Summit, died Feb. 11, 2009, at hishome surrounded by his family.

Visitation is Friday at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McCombfrom 5 until 8 p.m. and will continue Saturday from 9 until 11 a.m.when services will be held there with the Rev. Mike McKeeofficiating. Burial will be in the Montgomery Church Cemetery.

Thomas was born Oct. 17, 1946, in McComb on his father’sbirthday. He was the son of T. J. and Nell McKenzie Allred.

He graduated from Bogue Chitto Attendance Center and went on tobecome store manager of Winn-Dixie in McComb. He stayed with thatcompany for many years. In his later years, he was employed bySummit Plastics, which he spoke highly about because of how goodthey were to him during the stages of his illness. Thomas was amember of Montgomery Baptist Church. He found great comfort inattending services until his health would not allow him to attendanymore. He was the happiest when surrounded by his family andfriends; whether it was for a cookout at his home, fishing in hispond, at his son’s camp, or just hunting with his sons andgrandson. Thomas loved his family and there is a great sadness inour hearts because we loved him so much and will miss himgreatly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife,Barbara; and his brother, James Randall Allred.

He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, James EarlAllred, Michael Travis Allred and wife, Tammy, of Bogue Chitto, andThomas Neil Allred, of Summit; one daughter, Misty Ainsworth, ofFranklinton, La.; five grandchildren, Alan Michael Allred, of BogueChitto, Jasper Dean Allred, of McComb, Bree Smith, Kasey Smith andJacob Smith, all of Franklinton; two sisters and a brother-in-law,Jean Whittington and Patsy Johnson and husband, Bill, of Summit;two nieces and nephew-in-law, Amanda Slaughter and Melinda Carsonand husband, Billy, of Summit; one great-nephew, Zachery Thomas;and one great-niece, Gabriella Thomas, of Summit.

Pallbearers will be Alan Michael Allred, Bill Johnson, BillyCarson, Steve Winborne, Lamar Roberts and Aubrey Wallace.

Thomas Loyd ‘Tommy’ Butler

Services for Thomas Loyd “Tommy” Butler, of Lee County, Ga., are3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel inGeorgia. The Revs. Charles Jones, Norman Denney and Dr. Herbert R.Pearce will officiate.

Visitation is Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mr. Butler, 79, died Feb. 11, 2009, peacefully at Phoebe PutneyMemorial Hospital after a long, courageous battle with cancersurrounded by family and friends. He was born in Brookhaven onSept. 3, 1929, to Thomas Loyd Nelson Butler and Grace NationsButler.

Mr. Butler was reared in Wesson. After he graduated from WessonAttendance Center and served four years in the U.S. Air Force, hereturned to Mississippi to finish his education at Copiah-LincolnCommunity College. He graduated with a degree in accounting andbusiness law. Mr. Butler was a Ole Miss Rebels fan. When he movedto Dawson, Ga., he became an avid hunter and fisherman and beganhis 35-year career officiating high school football all over thestate of Georgia. After Mr. Butler retired as a territory salesmanager in agricultural chemicals for Estech/Swift, he startedThomas Butler and Associates Vending and later a constructionbusiness known as ReCon Inc. with his son-in-law. Mr. Butlerattended Byne Memorial Baptist Church in Albany, Ga. He was amember of Radium Country Club, the American Legion, VFW, Elks Lodgeand Moose Lodge.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors are his wife of almost 60 years, Helen Kierce Butler;his daughters, Teresa Bish and husband, Rick, of Watkinsville, Ga.,Vicki Wren and husband, David, and Wendy Pate and husband, Greg,all of Leesburg, Ga.; his grandchildren, Haylee, Lyndsey and DaveWren, Brittany Stalvey and husband, Mark, and Landon Pate, all ofLeesburg; a great-granddaughter, Mayson Stalvey; and his belovedcat, “Susie.”

Pallbearers are will be Steve Kierce, Donnie Wingate, CharlieGriner, Charlie Jenkins, O.D. Jackson and Kenny Moss.

Bettie Janette Chadwick

Services for Bettie Janette Chadwick, of Jayess, are 11 a.m.Saturday, Feb. 14, at Pine Grove Pentecostal Church in Foxworthwith burial in Sauls Valley Cemetery in Jayess. Wilson Funeral Homein Monticello is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Friday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the church.

Mrs. Chadwick, 78, died Feb. 11, 2009, at her residence. She wasborn in Mississippi on Feb. 21, 1930, to William Barney Ross andAda May Vinson.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of Pine Grove PentecostalChurch.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husbands, FloydWomble and Paul Chadwick; a son, Freddie Womble; her brothers, JohnRoss, Willie Ross and George Ross; her sisters, Ada Ross and JanetRoss; and a great-grandson, Hayden Boyd.

Survivors are her sons, Floyd Womble, of Las Vegas, Nev., BillJohn Womble, of Tilton, and Charles Chadwick, of Sumrall; herdaughters, Julie Wagner, of Florence, Mary Elizabeth Boyd, ofJayess, and Vivan Pittman, of Forest; her brothers, Leo G. Ross, ofBelzoni, Lewis Ross, of Cleveland, and Fred Ross, of Islo; hersisters, Ann Ramsher, of Picayune, Lucille Ross, of Yazoo City, andMittie Ross, of Islo; her 18 grandchildren; and her 16great-grandchildren.

Clara Dixon

Services for Clara Dixon, of Bogue Chitto and formerly ofMemphis, Tenn., are 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at Rose Hill M.B.Church in Bogue Chitto with burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation is Friday from noon until 6 p.m. at R.E. TylerFuneral Home.

Mrs. Dixon, 74, died Feb. 10, 2009, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter in Brookhaven. She was born on Aug. 23, 1934, to the Rev.L.A. Gayten and Annie Pearl Puttman.

She was a hair stylist. She was a member of Gateway Church ofGod in Christ in Memphis.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and her husband, Roy L.Dixon.

Survivors are her sons, Terry Gayten, of Bogue Chitto, and RoyDixon, of Brookhaven; a daughter, Debra Dover, of Bogue Chitto; asister, Leora Carter; her eight grandchildren; and her fivegreat-grandchildren.

Neva Marie Price Hendrick

Neva Marie Price Hendrick, 92, passed away peacefully onThursday, Feb. 12, 2009, surrounded by her family.

Neva was born on Sept. 11, 1916, in Columbia to Lilly and GeorgeArthur Price.

Neva was quite a woman, bringing laughter and adventure towhomever she met. She loved her family and friends passionately andwill be deeply missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, RialsPrice; her nephews, David Price and Jay Price; her sister, EthelRials; her former husband, Hal Hendrick; and her granddaughter,Donna Lynn Powell Smith.

She is survived by her brother, Jewel Price and wife, Grace, ofColumbia; a son, James Doyle Powell and daughter-in-law, Ann, ofBrookhaven; her grandson, Ken Powell and wife, Sherry, ofBrookhaven; her granddaughter, Sharon Powell, of Jackson; and hergranddaughter, Tina McGhee and husband, Jim, of Pensacola, Fla. Sheis also survived by her six great-grandchildren; her threegreat-great-grandchildren and a very special friend, LurleneDyess.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, atColonial Funeral Home in Columbia. Visitation will be from noonuntil 2 p.m. with the funeral service following.

A graveside service will be held at Riverwood Memorial Park inBrookhaven at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
