Man killed, wife injured in Fri. crash

A two-car accident on Highway 583 left a Lincoln County man deadand three others injured Friday evening, authorities said.
Lincoln County Coroner Clay McMorris said James Pickett, 49, ofPrimitive Drive in Ruth, died at King’s Daughters Medical Centershortly after the accident occurred.
“He was transported unresponsive and breathing, but by the timethey got him to the ER they were unable to revive him,” McMorrissaid.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop M Public Affairs Officer RustyBoyd said the 1998 Ford F150 Pickett was driving was struck almosthead-on by an oncoming vehicle on Highway 583 near Bogue ChittoRoad at 8:39 p.m. Friday.
McMorris said Pickett’s wife, Anita, 48, was sent to KDMC byambulance and was treated for moderate injuries and released.
Driver Meghan Mullins, 23, of Monticello, and passenger LacyGunnell, 26, of Jayess, who were both riding in the 2008 Tahoe thatwas involved in the collision with the Picketts, were also sent toKDMC with moderate injuries.
Boyd said the Picketts were traveling southbound on Highway 583when Mullins’ Tahoe crossed over into their lane.
“They struck front-left to front-left,” Boyd said. “It wasn’texactly head-on. They hit more center.”
Riverwood Family Funeral Service is in charge of Pickett’sarrangements, which are incomplete.
Meanwhile, a Liberty man was found dead in his vehicle Saturdayaround 9:07 a.m. on Highway 569 south a few miles below Highway 48in Amite County. Boyd said Elden Brooks, 40, was found dead in hisvehicle after it appeared to have run off the road and struck aculvert.
Boyd said it looks as though there may have been a medicalcondition that caused Brooks’ 2000 Chevrolet Blazer to run off theroad.
“It was a minor wreck,” Boyd said. “There were no visibleinjuries as far as something that would cause a fatality.”
Boyd said the accident is under investigation.
