Lady ‘Cats advance

BOGUE CHITTO – Senior center Kelli Howard’s 21 points sparked anoffensive blitz and the Bogue Chitto Lady ‘Cats roared to a 73-53Monday night win against the Ethel Lady Tigers in the opening roundof the South Mississippi Class 1A playoffs. Howard led 3 players indouble figures as Tesheon Rogers scored 16 points and AneshiaDillon 13.
Bogue Chitto (24-6) will host the South Mississippiquarterfinals Thursday, the semifinals Friday and the finalsSaturday. The Lady ‘Cats play Weir Thursday at 4 p.m. It will bethe first of 4 games on tap.
“We got a great effort from our girls,” said BC coach ChristiTerrell. “We hustled offensively and defensively. This was a bigwin for us.”
Terrell also lauded her team’s performance from the charitystripe where they made 14 of 19 free throws. “I was proud of theirfree throw shooting.”
The ‘Cats started strong as they posted a 24-15, first-quarterlead. They led 36-29 at halftime and outscored Ethel 18-11 in thethird frame.
On the backboards, BC dominated. Adrienne Hall had 9 rebounds,Howard and Shelby Tobias 8 apiece, and Rogers and Jose Porter 7apiece. Porter also had 7 assists and 3 steals. Darcy Miller dishedout 6 assists and grabbed 5 rebounds.
“We didn’t step up and play like we should,” said Ethel coachLetesha King. She only dressed seven players for the game.
The Lady Tigers (15-13) got 17 points from Lashonna Austin. LeeaGray had 15 points and Juliyah Erving 12.
