NATCHEZ — Preston Edwards struck out 11 batters and walked 5 inhurling Cathedral’s Green Waves to a 7-5, season- opening win overthe Loyd Star Hornets at Liberty Park. Edwards scattered 4hits.

Loyd Star (1-2), coached by Jonathan Breakfield, resumes playFriday in the Lincoln County Tournament at West Lincoln. TheHornets play Enterprise at 4:30. West Lincoln faces Bogue Chitto at7.

On Saturday, the Hornets meet Bogue Chitto at 3 p.m. and WestLincoln at 5:30.

“Edwards is a very good pitcher,” said Coach Breakfield. “Hethrows in the 85-87 (mph) range.”

Catcher Travis Keene doubled for Loyd Star. Collecting singlesfor the Hornets were T.J. Floyd, Cody Smith and Austin Travis.

First baseman Tyler Ballard went 4-for-4 to spark the GreenWave. Leftfielder Cole Junkin homered and doubled for the Wave.

Korey Allen (6 K, 4 BB) started on the mound for Loyd Star,giving up 5 hits and 6 runs. Tyler Case pitched the fifth and gaveup 1 unearned run on 2 singles. Drew Weaver (1 K, 1 BB) pitched thesixth and gave up 2 singles.
