Foster hurls Brook over McComb Tigers

McCOMB — Southpaw Brandon Foster pitched a 3-hitter in leadingthe Brookhaven Panthers to a 6-1 Tuesday night victory over theMcComb Tigers. He fanned 12 batters and walked 2.

The Panthers (4-1, 1-0) host McComb Friday for a divisiondoubleheader, starting at 5 p.m., on Moyer Field. They visitSumrall Saturday for a 4 p.m. varsity game

“Brandon has pitched two great ballgames for us,” said BHS headcoach Randy Spring. “With our top two pitchers out, he has reallystepped up for us. He’s given up just one earned run.”

Rightfielder Jarvis Wilbert homered and doubled and singled.Wilbert’s 2-run homer in the first got the Panthers rolling. Heslapped a 2-RBI single in the sixth.

Nick Helmstetter, slowed by a sprained ankle, contributed apinch-hit, RBI sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. Foster, IssacJones and Chris Seals singled in the triumph.

Senior pitcher Bud Britt, a preseason all-state nominee and aCo-Lin signee, has been sidelined by an injury to his pitching arm.Helmstetter, a pitcher/outfielder and Meridian Community Collegesignee, is slowed by a sprained ankle.

The Panthers beat McComb 3-1 in a preliminary JV game. PitchersDillon Newell, Zach Halliwell, Gabe Wilson and Patrick Valentinetoed the mound for BHS. Halliwell got the win and Valentine pickedup a save.

At the plate, Seals doubled. Wilson and Valentine singled.
