It has taken time, but persistence by city and county officialsappears to be finally paying off as work is scheduled to begin soonon the Interstate lighting of the Brookway Boulevard interchange. When completed, the result will be more visibility to Brookhavenand Lincoln County’s front door – something that could not be moreimportant in these tough economic times.

The lighting project – one of the last on the I-55 corridor -will include four 80-foot high-mast lights and 13 40-foot talllights. The city and county will be responsible for the upkeep andmaintenance, which should be easily offset by increased retailsales tax dollars now being missed as travelers bypass us atnight.

Like a front porch light at our homes, the glow of the newlighting will be a sign of welcome to visitors to our community ona dark night.
