Services for Marree Newell Calcote, of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m.Tuesday, March 10, at New Hope United Methodist Church inBrookhaven with burial in Newell Cemetery.

Visitation is Monday from 6 until 8:30 p.m. at Riverwood FamilyFuneral Service.

Mrs. Calcote, 100, died March 8, 2009, at Brook Manor NursingCenter. She was born on Oct. 5, 1908, to John E. Newell and ClaraBritt Newell.

She was a retired teacher and for the majority of her teachingcareer she taught in Lincoln County at New Sight, East Lincoln andLoyd Star schools. She also taught for four years in Yazoo County.She graduated from at Loyd Star High School in 1929 and StateTeacher’s College in 1933, which is now known as the University ofSouthern Mississippi. Mrs. Calcote was a member of New Hope UnitedMethodist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, BartCalcote; her sisters, Radie N. Montgomery and Kathleen N. Britt;and a brother, Eldon Newell.

Survivors are her daugthers, Peggy Calcote Poole and husband,Jackie and Patricia Calcote Lofton and husband, Randall, all ofBrookhaven; her six grandchildren, Siennie Poole, Shannon Poole andwife, Regina, Shawana Poole Moak and husband, Wayne, Sonya PooleCalcote and husband, Bryan, Scott Poole and wife, April, and SethLofton and wife, Kaylin; and her seven great-grandchildren, CarrieL. Moak, Cole Moak, Marley Poole, Meagan Poole, Nathan Poole, CleraBarton Calcote and Annaston Poole, all of Brookhaven.

John Levi Jr.

Services for John Levi Jr., of Brookhaven, were noon Sunday,March 8, at Williams Mortuary Chapel with burial in Rocky BranchCemetery in Monticello.

Mr. Levi, 83, died March 5, 2009, at the University ofMississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was born in LincolnCounty on March 28, 1925, to John Levi Sr. and Wynema FrelixLevi.

He was retired. He was a member of Della Green M.B. Church inBrookhaven and later joined Rocky Branch in Monticello.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Clinton W. Martin Sr.

Services for Clinton W. Martin Sr., of Wesson, were held atDecell Memorial United Methodist Church in Wesson with burial inHollywood Cemetery in McComb.

Mr. Martin, 84, died March 6, 2009, at his residence. He wasborn in Pike County to Fred Marshall Martin and Martha BrumfieldMartin.

He was a reared on a farm near Felder’s Campground. He attendedCarter’s Creek School and Southwest Mississippi Community College.Mr. Martin was a self-taught watchmaker and worked at Hainer’s andSelman’s jewelers in McComb during his first career. Hisself-acquired knowledge of electronics led to many years ofenjoyment as an amateur radio operator (K5JMD) and a second careerin the audio/visual department of the McComb Public School System.He retired from the latter in June 1990 after 22.5 years. Mr.Martin was a member of Decell Memorial United Methodist Church inWesson. He will be remembered as a kind and loving father andhusband, and for his unique sense of humor. He derived greatpleasure from helping others.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Alice MartinPate; and his brothers, Sam Olen Martin, Murry Hilton Martin, LloydA. Martin, Billy B. Martin, Marshall E. Martin and John H.Martin.

Survivors are his wife of 63 years, Bettye Jayne Hudson Martin,of Wesson; a daughter, Gerry Martin Daughdrill and husband, Dr. RoyWilson Daughdrill, of Wesson; a son, Dr. Clinton W. Martin Jr., ofOcean Springs; a grandson, Jaron W. Martin, of Gulfport; hissisters, Alma Martin McCullough Boyd, of the Felder’s Campgroundcommunity, and Geraldine Martin Brown, of Madison; a number ofnieces and nephews; and a special friend and neighbor, DianeMcIntyre.

Susie B. McCoy

Mrs. Susie Belle Beasley McCoy, 100, died peacefully surroundedby her family on Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Landmark AssistedLiving Center in Booneville, where she had resided the last year.Mrs. McCoy was born on Nov. 10, 1908, in Hazlehurst, and is thedaughter of the late George W. Beasley and Fannie AinsworthBeasley.

She attended Whitworth College in Brookhaven and graduated witha Bachelor of Science degree in education from MississippiTeacher’s College, now the Univeristy of Mississippi. She met herfuture husband, Elmer E. McCoy, while at Southern and they marriedon Aug. 19, 1933, a union that lasted 62 years until his death inNovember 1995. They purchased their home place in Booneville in1938 and “Miss Susie”, as she was affectionately known by many,taught the fifth grade at Thrasher and Jumpertown schools forseveral years. Later, she became a homemaker, staying home with herhusband and children, a job she dearly loved. She was a longtimemember and former financial secretary for First Baptist Church inBooneville. She and Elmer left First Baptist to start a missionchurch, Crestwood Baptist in east Booneville. As a charter member,she remained active and faithful until she suffered a stroke at age98. She taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for many,many years. Her love for the Lord was evident in everything she didor said. A woman of deep faith and a staunch prayer warrior, shelet everyone know her friend, Jesus. Her life was best described inProverbs 31. “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husbandalso praises her. Many women do noble things, but you surpass themall. Give her the reward she has earned and let her works bring herpraise at the city gates.” She actively participated with herhusband and son, Billy, in the family business, Willow Dale WormFarm, helping pack the worms and package them for shipping. Shealso cooked lunch for her family and the farm crew daily. She was awonderful cook, who didn’t know the meaning of cake mix. Mrs. McCoyloved gardening and was a master green thumb taking care of herflowers, plants and garden with expertise and love. Hergrandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life andshe greatly enjoyed their visits, educational accomplishments andtheir contributions to humanity. Miss Susie blessed many and willbe sorely missed by all.

A service celebrating her life will be held at 4 p.m. Monday,March 9, 2009, at the Gaston Baptist Church with Bro. JackieSpencer officiating. Her granddaughter, Kim McCoy Eubank, willdeliver the eulogy. Burial will follow in the Gaston Cemetery.Booneville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Surivivors include her two sons, Edward McCoy and wife, Barbara,and William J. “Billy” McCoy, Speaker of the Mississippi House ofRepresentatives, and his wife, Edith; a daughter, Sue McCoyAnderson and husband, David, all of Booneville; her sisters, BessHood, of Norman, Okla., and Jane Brown, of Hot Springs, Ark.; hersix grandchildren, Sam McCoy (Jamie), Kim Eubank (Kevin), RustyMcCoy, Jason McCoy (Cheryl), all of Booneville, Bobby Anderson(Catherine), of Madison, and Brad Anderson (Mary) of Phoenix,Ariz.; her 13 great-grandchildren; Molly Beth and Chloe Eubank,Lee, Tate and Jackson McCoy, Margaret and Stephen Anderson, Carleyand Colton McCoy, Louis Anderson, Gabbie and Gabe Hall and JustinMcCoy; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, formerPrentiss Co. Representative Elmer E. McCoy; her sisters, HazelHigdon and Frances White Brown; and a brother, Sidney Beasley.

Jerry Edward Rudman

Services for Jerry Edward Rudman, of New Hope, Pa., are 10 a.m.Wednesday, March 11, at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Brookhavenwith burial in Riverwood Memorial Park.

Visitation is Tuesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Riverwood FamilyFuneral Service.

Mr. Rudman, 48, died March 4, 2009, in New Hope. He was born onJuly 20, 1960, to Jerry T. Rudman and Iris Coker Rudman Smith.

He was vice president of the Center of Clinical Study ofExcellence for GlaxoSmithKline. He was of Catholic faith.

Preceding him in death were his father.

Survivors are his mother; his two brothers; his two sisters; andnumerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
