WOODVILLE – Stolen bases weren’t the only thing stolen Tuesdayafternoon as the Franklin County Bulldogs visited Wilkinson Countyfor a Region 7-3A baseball doubleheader.

The Bulldogs won both games 10-0, before learning that amajority of their personal belongings had been stolen off theschool bus they had rode to the game. One suspect was arrested,while another fled on foot after being chased by Wilkinson Countyschool officials.

“It unbelievable,” said Franklin County head baseball coachBrent Calcote. “Our kids are playing a game, and then they hearfrom people along side the fence that someone broke in ourbus.”

During game two of the doubleheader, Franklin County playerswere alerted by the apparent robbers along the right field fencethat merchandise belonging to them had been taken off the bus. Onceschool officials were notified, one suspect charged out of thewoods on a 4-wheeler (ATV), while another jumped a nearby fence andran.

Franklin High players learned of the break-in in the bottom ofthe fourth inning, as the robbers bragged about the theft to FCplayers in the outfield.

None of the merchandise turned up, which included the theft ofshoes, CD players, I-pods, and cell phones, worth an estimated$1,500. Wilkinson County police arrived at the scene, and arrestedthe owner of the 4-wheeler while a search began for the person thatfled on foot. An investigation is under way.

Two months ago, Franklin County basketball players were victimsof a bus theft at Wilkinson County.

The Diamond Dawgs (8-4, 7-0) won both games in five innings.Senior Jordan Hunt collected the victory on the mound in the firstgame, throwing a 4-inning, no-hitter. Hunt struck out 11 and walkedone.

At the plate, sophomore Milton Griffin led the Dawgs with twodoubles and three stolen bases. Christian Johnston, Jordan Hunt,and Philip Dillon each had two doubles as well.

In game two, sophomore Preston Shelton tossed a 1-hitter,striking out eight batters in four innings of work.

Hunt led the Bulldogs with a towering 2-run homer, while AustinMcFarland, Calvin Robinson, and Christian Johnston each had adouble and a single. Milton Griffin added a triple.

The Bulldogs are tied for first place with North Pike in Region7-3A action. FCHS has outscored its district opponents 103-5 thisseason.
