Ind. man faces drug charges after traffic stop

An Indiana man was arrested on drug charges Wednesday nightafter a Lincoln County K-9 unit found around 110 pounds ofmarijuana in the man’s vehicle during a routine traffic stop onInterstate 55, authorities said.

Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing said Ramiro Hernandez, 20,of 3915 Main St., East Chicago, Ind., was arrested on charges ofpossession of marijuana greater than five kilograms with intent todistribute around 9 p.m. Wednesday after Lt. Matt Springfield andhis dog Leaka, pulled him over around the 37-mile marker.

“He was pulled over for following too closely,” Rushing said.”Then the dog alerted on the vehicle.”

Rushing said the marijuana was stored in duffle bags in the blueChevrolet Hernandez was driving. Hernandez, who was ticketed forthe charge of following too closely, was traveling alone in hisvehicle.

Hernandez remained in jail Thursday.
