Authorities investigating ATV, lawnmower thefts

Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing said two recent arrestscould potentially lead to the recovery of several all-terrainvehicles that were reported stolen in the county in late Decemberand early January.

Rushing said Jamie Lee Loving, 40, of 340 Dry Creek Road, andLester Dale Perry, 36, of 449 Jackson Liberty Dr., were arrestedWednesday on two charges each of receiving stolen property. Bothwere still in Lincoln County Jail as of Friday morning.

Rushing said his department is working with the Columbia PoliceDepartment, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and theMississippi Agriculture Theft Bureau on the case.

In December, a “Mule” ATV and a four-wheeler were taken fromAuburn Drive and Verona Lane, respectively, just before Christmas.Two “Rhino” ATVs were taken from the Highway 550 area just afterChristmas.

In January, four other ATVs were taken all in the same nightfrom a local mobile home sales business.

So far, the investigators have recovered ATVs reported stolen inWilkinson and Franklin counties, and some of the stolen propertyhas been recovered from the Natchez area. Rushing said authoritiesin other jurisdictions are checking some of their recoveredproperty to see if any of them match the descriptions and vehicleidentification numbers of any of the ATVs stolen in LincolnCounty.

“There are other possible charges pending on these suspects asthe investigation goes further,” Rushing said. “We’re running downleads on other stolen items, and some of them are potentiallyconnected to Lincoln County.”

Rushing said there is a possibility that other stolen propertythat may be tied to Loving and Perry could also be located insurrounding states.

“And along with our thefts, we’re tracking some thefts fromother counties that seem to be related,” he said.

Rushing said the investigation has turned over several kinds ofATVs including RTVs, four-wheelers and zero-turn lawnmowers. Onetrailer has been recovered.

“We’ve all worked really hard on this case, and we’re gratefulfor the help the MBI and Ag Theft Bureau have done, as well asother agencies that have helped us on the recovery of thisproperty,” Rushing said.

Investigators are asking local residents who may have boughtsome kind of ATV or trailer from either Loving or Perry since lateNovember or early December to contact the Lincoln County Sheriff’sDepartment at 601-833-5231.
