Edward Charles ‘E.C.’ Byrd
Services for Edward Charles “E.C.” Byrd, of Brookhaven, are 2p.m. Friday, April 10, at New Vision Fellowship Hall in Brookhavenwith burial in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Visitation is Thursday from 1 until 7 p.m. at WilliamsMortuary.
Mr. Byrd, 53, died April 1, 2009, at Southwest MississippiRegional Medical Center in McComb. He was born in Lincoln County onFeb. 23, 1956, to Ossie Byrd and Ola Mae Byrd.
He was a retired from the City of Brookhaven. He was a member ofNew Vision Fellowship Hall, where he was a musician.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a stepmother, GloriaByrd; a son, Edward Charles Byrd Jr.; his sisters, GloriaWeathersby, Josephine Byrd and Wyline Byrd; and a daughter-in-law,Tobias Adams Byrd.
Survivors are his daughters, Misty Byrd, of Brookhaven, RuthPerkins and husband, Randy, of Bogue Chitto, Falicia Daigins, ofMonticello, Mya Boys, of Alabama, Aretha Adams and husband, Willie,of Jackson, Lamara Adams, of Brookhaven, and Alarice Adams, ofChicago, Ill.; his sons, Chalsey Byrd and wife, Tamara, LorenzoPowell and wife, Lavasis, all of Brookhaven, Stanford Powell andwife, Jennifer, of Indiana, Stacey Powell and wife, Gwen, ofMemphis, Tenn., Lilwalt Adams, of Brookhaven and Walter Adams, ofChicago; his sisters, Mary Henderson and husband, Edward, of theSiloam community, Ernestine Burks and husband, Glenn, of FranklinCounty, and Phyllis Peartree, of Brookhaven; his brothers, WayneCooper and wife, Mary, of Monticello, Corey Green, of California,and Guy Williams, of Brookhaven; a brother-in-law, Wayne Henry, ofBrookhaven; his uncles, M.C. Byrd and wife, Dorothy, and JamesColeman; his 40 grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and otherrelatives.
Jerome Warren Freeman Sr.
Services for Jerome Warren Freeman Sr., of Indianapolis, Ind.,were 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at Sylvarena Baptist Churchin Wesson with burial in the church cemetery. Brookhaven FuneralHome was in charge of arrangements.
Dr. Freeman, 80, died April 2, 2009, in Indianapolis. He wasborn in Indianapolis on July 3, 1928, to George Louis Freeman andIda Helen Freeman.
He was a teacher, administrator, professor and director of deafservices in eight different states for 48 years. He was director ofdeaf and hard of hearing services for the state of Indiana, withRelay Indiana and also with the Board of Standards forInterpreters. Dr. Freeman was a graduate from the Indiana Schoolfor the Deaf and Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. He held amaster’s degree in education from Mississippi College and amaster’s degree in administration from San Fernando StateUniversity. He also held a doctorate in curriculum andadministration from the University of Tennessee. He was a member ofPeace Lutheran Church for the Deaf. Dr. Freeman had lost hishearing at age seven due to complications from spinalmeningitis.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his two brothers,Russell and Ricky; and a sister, Mildred.
Survivors are his wife of 55 years, Helen Beatrice JacksonFreeman, of Indianapolis; his sons, Jerome W. Freeman Jr. and wife,Deborah, of Decatur, and Michael Louis Freeman and wife, Kelly, ofIndianapolis; and his four grandchildren, Jenny, Bob, Joe andSarah.
Memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church for the Deaf inhonor of Dr. Freeman.
Elizabeth Huey
There will be a private service for the family of ElizabethHuey, of Monticello. Riverwood Family Funeral Service is in chargeof arrangements.
Mrs. Huey, 84, died April 7, 2009, at New Dawn Retirement Centerin Ruth. She was born on Dec. 26, 1924, to Cleve Pounders andJessie Belle Foster Pounders.
She was a retired teacher serving 35 years in the Monticelloschools. She was a member of Monticello Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death were her father, Cleve Pounders; hermother, Jessie Belle Foster Pounders; and her two brothers, ClevePounders Jr. and Alfred F. Pounders.
Survivors are a son, Steve Huey and wife, Terri, of Brookhaven;her two grandchildren, Emily Phillips and husband, Jeff, and BenHuey and wife, Alyson; and a great-grandchild, David Phillips.
Memorials may be made to Monticello Baptist Church.
John H. ‘Bubber’ White Jr.
Services for John H. “Bubber” White Jr., of McComb, are 2 p.m.Thursday, April 9, at J.J. White Memorial Presbyterian Church withburial with military honors in Hollywood Cemetery.
Visitation is Wednesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Hartman-SharkeyFuneral Home in McComb and Thursday from 12:30 until 2 p.m. at thechurch.
Mr. White, 75, died April 7, 2009, at his residence. He was bornin McComb on Oct. 15, 1933, to John H. White Sr. and Ella NevilleWhite.
He practiced law for 46 years. He served eight years as aselectman for the City of McComb, as city judge for 18 years, andas city judge for the town of Summit for 25 years. With hischildren, he operated the Crazy Sam Fireworks business for 27years. He was a member of J.J. White Memorial Presbyterian Church,where he served as an elder, a deacon, on numerous committees andtaught the men’s Bible class for 37 years. He was also an ombudsmanfor the Mississippi National Guard and received the Seven SealsAward for his service. He served in Korea, also.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Survivors are his wife of nearly 52 years, Sue Lawson White, ofMcComb; his two daughters, Polly Ann Lewman, of Brookhaven, and Dr.Suzy White-Williams, of Tupelo; a sister, Ella Weston; his fourgrandchildren; a niece; a nephew; and his four cousins.
