Leman D. Gandy
Services for Leman D. Gandy, of Greenwood, were 3 p.m. Saturday,March 28, at Valley Hill Baptist Church in Greenwood with burial inSardis Baptist Church Cemetery near Hazlehurst on Sunday, March 29.Wilson & Knight Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Gandy, 71, died March 25, 2009, at St. Dominic-JacksonMemorial Hospital in Jackson. He was born on July 24, 1937, toClarence and Estelle Gandy.
He attended Georgetown School in Copiah County. Mr. Gandy servedin the U.S. Marines. He was also a state trooper. He graduated fromthe University of Southern Mississippi, Northwestern UniversityTraffic Institute and Jackson School of Law. He had a successfullaw practice and ran for governor in 1975. Also in the late 1970s,he was instrumental in helping establish D’Iberville as a city. Hemoved to Greenwood in 1988. He was a member Valley Hill BaptistChurch in Greenwood.
Survivors are his wife, Yvonne Gandy, of Greenwood; his sons,Jerry Gandy, of Edwards, Calif., and Mike Summerhill, of Madison;his daughters, Linda Meade, of Biloxi, and Tammy Brown, ofJacksonville, Fla.; and his sisters, Nancy “Tillie” Ashley, ofBrandon, Doris Armstrong, of Wesson, and Wilda Davis, of Sulligent,Ala.
Robert Earl Turner
Services for Robert Earl Turner, of Collins, formerly ofBrookhaven, are 1 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at Williams MortuaryChapel in Brookhaven with burial in Carver Heights Cemetery inBrookhaven.
Mr. Turner, 76, died April 8, 2009, at Mississippi StateVeterans Home in Collins. He was born in Brookhaven on July 9,1932, to Lucious Turner Sr. and Rosie Smith Turner.
He was a graduate of Alexander High School. He was disabled. Mr.Turner served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was amember of Grace Community Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Rosie LeeLyons; and a brother, Charles “Boot” Turner.
Survivors are a son, James Earl Robinson, of Chicago, Ill.; hissisters, Allene Rakes, of Cleveland, Ohio, Verna J. “Kitty” Byrd,of Brookhaven, and Margie L. Turner, of Alexandria, Va.; a brother,Lucious Turner, of Bentonia; and many nieces, nephews and otherrelatives.
John Titus Charles White
Services for John Titus Charles White, of Brookhaven, are 1 p.m.Thursday, April 16, at Friendship Baptist Church in Brookhaven withburial in the church cemetery. Riverwood Family Funeral Service isin charge of arrangements.
The infant died April 14, 2009, at River Oaks Hospital inFlowood. He was born on April 14, 2009, to Howard LaRon “Peanut”White and Michelle Nicole Glidewell.
Preceding him in death were an infant brother; hisgreat-grandfather, Hollis Howard White; a grandfather, John WesleyGlidewell III; a great-grandmother, Rutha Hellus; an uncle, JackieWilson; and a great aunt, Beverly Ann Riguad.
Survivors are his parents, Howard LaRon “Peanut” White andMichelle Nicole Glidewell; a brother, Ethan Garth Monroe White; hisgrandparents, Howard and Rhonda White, of Brookhaven, and JoanneLisa Glidewell, of Pearl; a great-grandmother, Laura Louise White,of Brookhaven; an aunt and uncle, Danyelle and Glen Owens, of Ruth;an aunt, Lydia Williams, of Pearl; and a host of cousins.
