Services for Samuel James Newsom, of Monticello, are 3 p.m.Saturday, April 25, at Wanilla Baptist Church in Monticello withburial in the church cemetery. Wilson Funeral Home is in charge ofarrangements.

Visitation is Saturday from 2 until 3 p.m. at the church.

Tech. Sgt. Newsom, 82, died April 21, 2009, at King’s DaughtersMedical Center in Brookhaven. He was born on April 18, 1927, toS.E. Newsom and Minnie Mae Keene Newsom.

He retired from the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of foreignwars. He served in World War II and during the Korean conflict. Hewas a member of Wanilla Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors are his sons, Thomas J. Newsom and wife, Debbie FeeNewsom, of Sevierville, Tenn., and Joseph M. Newsom and wife, PattyBaxter Newsom, of Knoxville, Tenn.; a daughter, Betty Ann NewsomKeil and husband, George, of Knoxville; a brother, Joseph P.Newsom, of Brookhaven; his sisters, Faye Newsom Hibbard and PaulineNewsom Lambert, both of Brookhaven; his six grandchildren, TerriLynn Jablonski, J. Robert Cash III, Ron M. Newsom, Thomas C.Newsom, all of Knoxville, Michael T. Newsom and Christy L. Newsom,both of Sevierville; and his three great-grandchildren, Natalie M.Jablonski, J. Robert Cash IV and NoLynn R. Jablonski, all fromKnoxville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wanilla BaptistChurch in memory of Samuel James Newsom.
