A local businesswoman was ordered to close down her realtycompany and cease operations after the Mississippi Real EstateCommission sought and received an injunction against herThursday.

Lincoln County Chancery Judge Edward Patten issued a restrainingorder against Theresa “Sue” Davis, owner of Mississippi Realty andLand, after an MREC investigator testified in a hearing that Davisis practicing real estate without a license.

The order restrains Davis from practicing real estate andrequires the removal of all signs and advertisements. A trial ispending.

When contacted Thursday afternoon, Davis denied the commission’sallegations.

According to the order, Davis admitted to violations of theMississippi Real Estate Broker’s License Act of 1954 and agreed toa suspension of her license on March 16. MREC began investigatingDavis after it received notice that she continued to practice realestate despite the suspension.

The document also claims Davis, when confronted by thecommission, told officials she “no longer considered herself a realestate agent and claimed she had no duty to obey orders andinstructions from the Commission.” Davis’ continuing practice”creates a … threat to the public of immediate and irreparableinjury, loss or damage if her behavior is not restrained.”

MREC Investigator David Griffith, who testified against Davis incourt Thursday, did not immediately return phone calls seekingcomment.
