William Lee Byrd

Services for William Lee Byrd, of Brookhaven, were 11 a.m.Monday, May 25, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with burial in thechurch cemetery. Riverwood Family Funeral Service was in charge ofarrangements.

Mr. Byrd, 96, died May 22, 2009, at his residence. He was bornon Nov. 27, 1912, to James Monroe Byrd and Beulah Herring.

He worked for the railroad and also owned Byrd Lumber Co., asawmill business he started in 1948. He incorporated it with histhree sons in 1976. He was a member of Pleasant Grove BaptistChurch, where he was a deacon for well over 50 years and a Sundayschool superintendent.

Preceding him in death were his father, James Monroe Byrd; hismother, Beulah Herring Byrd; a son, James W. Byrd; and hisbrothers, Charles Byrd and Clinton Byrd.

Survivors are his wife of 77 years, Aline Lofton Byrd; his sons,Jerry L. Byrd and wife, Betty, and Keith R. Byrd; a daughter,Barbara Jean Robinson and husband, Jerry; a brother, Louis Byrd; adaughter-in-law, Jean Byrd; his 11 grandchildren; and his 29great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be LaRue Byrd, Kevin Byrd, Karl Byrd, WyattRobinson, Tom Robinson, Lee Robinson, Bruce Clanton, Ken Powell andJason Case.

Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Pleasant GroveBaptist Church, Danny Ray Allred, Cortez Byrd and Wayne Ginn.

Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Grove Baptist ChurchBuilding Fund.

Frances Scott Flowers

Services for Frances Scott Flowers were 2 p.m. Monday, May 25,at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church with burial in the churchcemetery. Franklin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Flowers, 92, died May 23, 2009, at Franklin CountyHospital. She was born in Franklin County on May 15, 1917, toThomas Jefferson Scott and Lois Murray Scott.

She was a seamstress. She was a member of Pleasant ValleyBaptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Jeff TrulyFlowers; her four brothers; and her four sisters.

Survivors are a brother, Sherrod Scott, of Meadville; a sister,Leslie “Winnie” Scott, of Meadville; her 11 nephews; and her sixnieces.

Toylea Bardwell Smithie

Services for Toylea Bardwell Smithie, of Monticello, were 11a.m. Monday, May 25, at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with burial inTilton United Methodist Church Cemetery in Jayess.

Mrs. Smithie, 93, died May 24, 2009, at Lawrence CountyHospital. She was born in Walthall County on Aug. 14, 1916, toVirgil Bardwell and Lottie Brewer Bardwell.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of Powells GrovePentecostal Church in Jayess.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, LeroySmithie; a son, Donald Smithie; and her two brothers.

Survivors are her daughters, Patsy Parkman and Barbra Randall,both of Jayess; her nine grandchildren; her 13 great-grandchildren;and her seven great-great-grandchildren.
