A Brookhaven man was arrested early Monday morning following ashort pursuit involving a wreck and the release of a police dog,authorities said.

Reginald William Pharr, 24, of 126 W. Enterprise St., wascharged with felony fleeing, possession of crack cocaine, failureto yield to blue lights, no driver’s license, no proof of insuranceand no tag, said Brookhaven Assistant Police Chief Nolan Jones.

Jones said Brookhaven police officer Clint Earls attempted tomake a traffic stop on Brookway Boulevard at 2:28 a.m. Monday whenthe 2002 black Buick attempted to flee. The vehicle refused to stopfor lights or siren before hitting a curb and flipping at theintersection of the boulevard and Monticello Street.

“I don’t think he was running that fast,” Jones said. “He justdidn’t want to stop.”

Pharr left the vehicle and tried to run away on foot, theassistant chief said.

“After several verbal warnings from the officer, the driverfailed to comply and the K9 was deployed,” Jones said.

The dog, Ike, apprehended Pharr a short distance from thevehicle, he said.

Pharr was treated for minor abrasions obtained in the crash andreleased from King’s Daughters Medical Center, Jones said. Therewere no bite wounds.

“It was a job well done – (Earls) and Ike,” he said.
