No injuries in Sunday house fire

There were no injuries when a an evening fire damaged an eastBrookhaven rental home Sunday, officials said.

The Brookhaven Fire Department responded to the call of a houseon fire at 224 Avalon St. 6:39 p.m. Sunday, Shift Capt. FurmanFreeman said.

He said the fire seemed to have started in the back of the home,but firefighters were able to fight the fire by going in the frontof the house and keeping the majority of the damage to the backrooms of the structure.

“They entered the house from the front and contained the fire inthe back,” he said.

The house is owned by Carrie Taylor of Alabama, and was beingrented by Willie Williams Jr. of Brookhaven.

Firefighters remained on the scene for a little over an hour,according to reports. Department officials estimated 60 percentdamage to the building and 50 percent to the contents.
