MARY LOYCE BERRY

Services for Mary Loyce Berry, of Wesson, are 3 p.m. Sunday,July 12, at Wesson Baptist Church with burial in Wesson Cemetery.Stringer Family Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Sunday from 2 until 3 p.m. at the church.

Mrs. Berry, 74, died July 10, 2009, at Hospice Ministries inRidgeland. She was born on May 30, 1935, to Barney Smith and MaryAlice Little Smith. She married Lee W. Berry Jr. After living outof state for several years, they settled in Wesson in 1962 whereshe lived until her death. They operated a grocery store for manyyears.

She also worked for 20 years with Wesson schools, serving in thestudy hall and later as assistant librarian. She was a member ofWesson Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities over theyears, including as teacher for the Gleaners Sunday school class, agroup dear to her heart, and as a member of Happy Harvesters.

Mrs. Berry was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliaryand the Fifty Plus Club. She was entirely devoted to her family andwas particularly proud of her grandchildren. It was her greatestpleasure to spend time with them. She attended every ball game,program, ceremony and special event of each.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and her husband, Lee W.Berry Jr.

Survivors are her son, Lee W. Berry III and wife, Debby, ofHuntsville, Ala., and their children, Lee W. Berry IV, ofWashington, D.C., Elise Berry Sauber and husband, Matt, of BowlingGreen, Ky., and Elaine Berry, of Huntsville; her daughter, KathyDugas and husband, Louis, of Flowood, and their children, MattDugas, of Wesson, Allison Dugas Pates and husband, Andrew, ofBrandon, and Caleb Dugas, of Flowood; her daughter, Elise BerryMunn and husband, Terry, and their children, Quentin Munn and MaryBeth Munn, all of Wesson; her brothers, Barney Smith, of Columbia,and John Mack Smith, of Georgetown; and her sisters, Nell Smith, ofJackson, Elise Smith, of Byram, Ann Crosby, of Sontag, AudreyCupit, of Meadville, and Margaret Lee, of Magee.

The family would like to thank Hospice Ministries, particularlySherry Neal, R.N., for the wonderful care provided to Mrs. Berry.They would also like to thank Dr. Gerry Ann Houston and JacksonOncology for nine years of excellent medical treatment.

Memorials may be made to the Lee Will and Mary Loyce BerryScholarship at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson.

ARTIE ‘T’ BYRD

Services for Artie “T” Byrd, of Brookhaven, are 2 p.m. Tuesday,July 14, at Siloam M.B. Church with burial in the church cemetery.Williams Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Monday from 1 until 8 p.m. at the funeral homewith family present from 7 until 8 p.m.

Mr. Byrd, 87, died July 6, 2009, at Countrybrook Living Center.He was born in Lincoln County on Feb. 9, 1922, to Johnny Byrd andHannah Buie Byrd.

He attended Midway School in Lincoln County and graduated fromMcDonogh 35 in New Orleans, La. He was a self-employed buildingconstruction contractor and the night engineer at Whitney NationalBank in New Orleans, where he retired after more than 30 years ofservice. He was a member of the Smoking for Jesus Ministries in NewOrleans and the Fraternal Order of the Masons. He was also a U.S.Army veteran of World War II and a quartet singer with his brotherfor many years.

Mr. Byrd relocated to his birthplace of Brookhaven following thedevastation of Hurricane Katrina, which destroyed his home andcaused him to lose everything he owned.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his daughter, Mary LeeByrd; his son, Terry Lee Byrd; his granddaughter, Elease Underwood;and his brothers, Willie Byrd, Marzell Byrd, Melvin Byrd andClinton Byrd.

Survivors are his wife, Annie Lois Hathorn Byrd, of Brookhaven;his children, Johnnie Mae Davis, of Roy, Utah, Minor Lee Wilcherand wife, Bessie, of Champaign, Ill., Voncile Johnson, DeniseSpellman and husband, Gerald, and Muriel Randle, all of NewOrleans, and Artie Randle and wife, Ezell, of Slidell, La.; hisbrother, Linton Byrd and wife, Marie, of Champaign; his sister,Lucy Harrington Ferguson, of Bogue Chitto; 11 grandchildren; 13great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two devotednieces, Hannah Mae Hill and Mae Bell Fells, both of Brookhaven; andmany other nieces, nephews and other relatives.

ILA RUTH MONTGOMERY DUNAWAY

Services for Ila Ruth Montgomery Dunaway, of Brookhaven, are 11a.m. Monday, July 13, at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel on NorthJackson St. with burial in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation is Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of the serviceat the funeral home.

Mrs. Dunaway, 93, died July 13, 2009, at Countrybrook LivingCenter. She was born in Lincoln County on July 24, 1915, to ThomasFrancis Montgomery and Bettie Walker Montgomery.

She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and her husbands,William Clark and Winston Dunaway.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Compassionin McComb.

ARTHUR MELVIN ‘ED’ FOSTER

Services for Arthur Melvin “Ed” Foster, of Brookhaven, are 2p.m. Sunday, July 12, at Fair River Baptist Church with burial inthe church cemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home on Natchez Drive is incharge of arrangements.

Visitation is Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of the serviceat the funeral home.

Mr. Foster, 80, died July 10, 2009, at Southwest MississippiRegional Medical Center in McComb. He was born in Lincoln County onJune 13, 1929, to Arthur Foster and Joysie Smith Foster.

He was retired from Georgia-Pacific. He was a member of FairRiver Baptist Church, where he was a longtime deacon. He was also aU.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict and a Mason at the FairRiver Lodge.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and his brothers, W.J., Boyce, Burns, R. O., Braxton and Billy Joe Foster; and hissister, Stella Mae James.

Survivors are his wife, Iva Nell Foster, of Brookhaven; his son,Dean Foster and wife, Linda, of Brookhaven; his devoted pet,Savannah; and numerous nieces and nephews.

IRA L. KELLY

Services for Ira L. Kelly, of Greenville, S.C., and formerly ofBrookhaven, were July 8, 2009, in Simpsonville, S.C. BeasleyFuneral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kelly, 74, died July 3, 2009, in Greenville. He was born inBrookhaven on Jan. 12, 1935, to Versie and Addie Fairman Kelly.

Survivors are his wife, Willie B. Kelly, of Greenville; hissons, Ira B. Kelly, of Auburn, Ala., Rocky Kelly, Esses Kelly,David Kelly and Gregory Sutton, all of Springfield, Mass., DerrickSutton, of Asheville, N.C., and Joseph Sutton, of Greenville; hissisters, Virgie Mae Clark, of Brookhaven, and Geraldine Kelly, ofSpringfield; his brothers, Charles Kelly and Versie Kelly, both ofBrookhaven, and J.C. Kelly, of Springfield; 29 grandchildren; 17great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins andfriends.

DARA JONES SULLIVAN

Services for Dara Jones Sullivan, of Brandon, are 2 p.m. Sunday,July 12, at Franklin Funeral Home with burial in Mt. Zion BaptistChurch Cemetery.

Mrs. Sullivan, 102, died July 10, 2009, at Brandon Nursing andRehabilitation Center. She was born in Franklin County on Aug. 29,1906, to Charlie C. Jones and Minnie White Jones.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of Mt. Zion BaptistChurch.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, RaySullivan; and seven siblings.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
