SW Stars 2nd in state tourney

JACKSON — The Southwest Mississippi All-Stars finishedrunners-up to Long Beach in the Babe Ruth State (15s) Tournamentthat was held at Smith-Wills Stadium. Long Beach, the 2-timedefending state champion, beat Southwest 6-3 in Sunday’s titlegame, scoring 6 unearned runs on 6 Southwest errors.

Earlier in the double-elimination tournament Long Beach defeatedSouthwest 8-6. Southwest posted 3 tournament wins, defeating EastCentral 2-1, Poplarville 18-0 and Orange Grove 12-2.

Kolby Ross (5 K, 3 BB) pitched the title game victory. TylerCase (0 K, 2 BB) took the loss, allowing no earned runs.

Three singles by Will Nazen and 2 hits by Joseph Yott led LongBeach.

Southwest got 2 singles from Hunter Aultman. Kin Mullins, AustinTravis, Will Richardson and Emile Garrett singled.

Southwest 12, O. Grove 0

Garrett (1 K, 2 BB) went 5 innings in pitching the win. JaredSimon (1 K, 3 BB( took the loss.

Anthony Durr tripled and singled for Southwest. Aultman andRichardson both doubled and singled. Mullins had 3 hits.

Long Beach 8, Southwest 6

Will Hazer (8 K, 2 BB) pitched Long Beach’s first win overSouthwest. Brandon Terrell (0 K, 1 BB) took the loss.

Richardson’s triple and single led Southwest. Aultman doubled.Case, Mullins, Durr, Jonathan Freeman and Joseph Clark singled.

Ross tripled and singled for Long Beach. Nazin tripled. PatrickDevlin doubled and singled.

Southwest 18, Poplarville 0

Garrett (5 K, 0 BB) got the win, allowing 2 hits in 5 innings,.Blake Weyenberg (1 K, 4 BB) was the loser.

At the plate, Southwest had 13 hits, led by Clark’sinside-the-park homer. Richardson tripled twice. Durr singled twiceand doubled. Travis tripled and singled. Garrett and Case bothsingled twice.

Southwest 2, East Central 1

Terrell (1 K, 0 BB) pitched 3 innings of relief and got the win.Travis (1 K, 2 BB) started and gave up 1 hit. Case (0 K, 0 BB)hurled the last frame and got the save, holding East Centralhitless.

Two singles by Garrett led the victory.

Kyle Rice had 2 hits for East Central.
