Outstanding Teen trunk show Sunday

Brookhaven’s own Miss Mississippi’s Outstanding Teen is invitingfriends, family and the general public to catch a sneak peak of hercompetition strategy Sunday before she moves on to face otheroutstanding teens from across the nation.

Brookhaven High School’s Laura Lee Lewis, 16, will host a trunkshow Sunday at 3 p.m. in the BHS auditorium in which she will modelher wardrobe and perform her chosen song in a practice run for herupcoming appearance in the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageantbeginning Aug. 15. The nationwide pageant will see Laura Leecompete against 52 other girls from the states and territories.

“It’s kind of like an exhibition game,” said Lorin Lewis, LauraLee’s mother. “It’s an opportunity for supporters, friends andfamily to come and support her, and an opportunity for her to havea deadline and day where she has to have it all ready. It’s a greatpractice with no competition – just loving people in the audiencewith no judges.”

Laura Lee will model her competition wardrobe and perform”Somewhere,” a song from the Broadway musical “West Side Story.”She will be joined by recently crowned Miss Mississippi and “bigsister” Anna Tadlock, a Brookhaven native who will also sing, andby her “princess” Hanna Rae Britt.

Brookhaven Mayor Les Bumgarner will present Laura Lee with thekey to the city, and Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of CommerceProgram Director Kay Burton will make a presentation on thechamber’s behalf.

Lewis said trunk show invitations have been sent to around 400people, and she expects them and more to attend Sunday’s event. Shesaid supporters should show up to inspect Laura Lee’s show planbecause she will represent not only them, but all of Mississippi atthe national competition.

“This is their crown, too,” Lewis said. “Most people will not beable to attend the national competition – we have 30 rooms bookedfor the Brookhaven group in Orlando. It’s good for them to come andbe able to see her on stage and be a part of the process.”
