WESSON – The Wesson Lady Cobras slowpitch softball team willkick off their 2009 season Monday evening when they host BogueChitto for a doubleheader. The junior varsity game begins at 5p.m., followed by the varsity at 6.

Jackie Stowe replaced Hugh Webb as the head slowpitch coach.Joining Stowe on staff are Dale Lowery and new assistant RustiMagee.

Webb serves as girls head basketball coach and Magee will joinhim as an assistant as well. Stowe will assist fastpitch head coachTiffany Ferguson in the spring of 2010.

Stowe played fastpitch softball at Copiah Academy,Copiah-Lincoln Community College and Delta State University.

“The girls are doing pretty good,” said Stowe. “We just have twoweeks to get ready to play. We are trying to fine-tune some things.I have to adjust to getting to know the kids well and where theyneed to play.”

Stowe said being a first-year head coach is a learningexperience.

“I am learning about what goes on,” explained Stowe. “We want towin the state. We have to win the district, then move on.”

Stowe said going from fastpitch to slowpitch is a bigadjustment.

“Slowpitch is a different look for me,” added Stowe. “Comingback down to high school and slowpitch after playing fastpitch atCo-Lin (Allen Kent) and Delta State (David Khun). Dale (Lowery) hasbeen helping me out a lot. It’s a transition for me.”

Joining Wesson in their district are Enterprise (Lincoln),Prentiss and Bassfield. The top two teams advance to the stateplayoffs.
