Parklane rules jamboree

MCCOMB – For the McComb Parklane Academy Pioneers, Fridaynight’s football jamboree was a preview of good things to come inthe 2009 football season.

Parklane, under second-year head coach Bo Milton, defeatedBrookhaven Academy 14-0 and Centreville Academy 21-14, witnessed bya large crowd of football-hungry fans.

“It was a good jamboree,” said Milton. “Everybody got somethingpositive out of it. We will take it and evaluated it.”

Parklane kicks off its season on the road Friday night atJackson Academy.

Parklane 14, BA 0

“Brookhaven gave a good effort,” said Milton who previouslycoached at BA in 2006-07. “They played really hard. They will bevery competitive in their district.”

After a scoreless first quarter, starting Parklane quarterbackChance Smith connected with Ben Kavanay for the first touchdown.Backup quarterback Steven Swindle hit Josh Armstreet for the secondTD.

“Both quarterbacks have different strengths and weaknesses butChance is our starter,” explained Milton. “We did some good things.It was a glorified practice.”

Parklane 21, Centreville 14

For the Pioneers, Swindle completed a touchdown pass to JordanTaylor, Tanner McDaniel scored on a 1-yard TD run and Swindleconnected on a touchdown pass to Hunter Aughement.

“The effort was good,” said Milton.

Brookhaven Academy, coached by Herbert Davis, hosts the Silliman(La.) Institute Wildcats in their season opener Friday night.
