Services for Francis Whitfield Varnado, of Bogue Chitto, are 11a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Riverwood Family Funeral Service Chapelin Brookhaven with burial in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemeteryin Bogue Chitto.

Visitation is Tuesday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mr. Varnado, 79, died Aug. 23, 2009, at his residence. He wasborn on June 24, 1930, to Thomas Howell Varnado and Christine LewisVarnado.

He retired from the U.S. Army and served in both the Koreanconflict and the Vietnam War. He was a member of Pleasant HillBaptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Thomas Howell Varnadoand Christine Lewis Varnado; a daughter, Melanie Ann Varnado; andseveral brothers and sisters.

Survivors are his wife, Loleta Varnado; his sons, KennethVarnado, of Clarksville, Tenn., and Gary Varnado and wife, Bonnie,of Bogue Chitto; his seven grandchildren, Ciara, Ken Jr., Ryan,Cameron, Chelsea, Brandon and Jessica; and a great-grandchild.
