Services for Gladys Flowers Smith, of McComb, are 2 p.m. Monday,Aug. 24, at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home with burial in HollywoodCemetery. The Rev. Rick Kennedy and Dr. David Millican willofficiate.

Visitation is Sunday from 5 until 8 p.m. and Monday from noonuntil the time of the service. Both visitation services will be atthe funeral home.

Mrs. Smith, 87, died Aug. 21, 2009, at her residence. She wasborn in Vicksburg on March 27, 1922, to Willie Gale Flowers andDorothy West Flowers.

She graduated from Heucks Retreat High School in Lincoln County.She and her late husband, Grover Smith, were married for 64 years.Together, they owned and operated Acme Sheet Metal Works in McCombfor three decades until their retirement in 1979.

Mrs. Smith was a member of New Heights Baptist Church. She was avolunteer with the Pink Lady Auxiliary of Southwest MississippiRegional Medical Center for more than 25 years. After she and herhusband retired, they enjoyed traveling and camping with friendsfor two decades as members of the Good Sam Club.

She took great pride in the accomplishments of her children andgrandchildren, traveling to their high school and collegegraduations; attending their weddings; and celebrating the birthsof their children. She will be remembered by her family and friendsas kind and thoughtful, generous with her time and unwavering inher commitment to those she loved.

Preceding her in death was her husband; her son, David AnthonySmith, of McComb; her daughter, Kathy Smith Barnes, of McComb; andher granddaughter, Lacey Baker Smith.

Survivors include her son, Mike Smith, of McComb; her daughters,Dolores Smith Bell, of Memphis, Tenn., and Karen Smith Wallace, ofMcComb; her grandchildren, Jason Maxwell, Jennifer Smith Dumas,Josh “Bo” Bell, David Bell, Bridget Smith, Melita Smith Baldwin,Sarah Wallace Anderson, Jamie Wallace and Julie Wallace; and eightgreat-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jason Maxwell, David Bell, Jamie Wallace,Dr. John Dale Dumas, B.A. Anderson and Jason Howell.

The family is grateful for the many relatives and friends whoshowed devotion to Mrs. Smith throughout her illness, andparticularly to the dedicated team of caretakers who provided loyaland compassionate care during the final months of her life.
