Services for Bettye R. Price, of Jayess, are 11 a.m. Tuesday,Sept. 1, at Providence Baptist Church in Jayess with burial in thechurch cemetery.

Visitation is Monday from 5 until 9 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Homein Monticello and Tuesday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the church.

Mrs. Price, 71, died Aug. 29, 2009, at St. Dominic-JacksonMemorial Hospital in Jackson. She was born in Ruth on Aug. 25,1938, to Woodie James Rutland and Ethel Smith Rutland.

She retired assistant vice president of Deposit GuarantyNational Bank in McComb. Mrs. Price graduated from Ruth High Schooland Draughn’s Business College. She was former director of theMississippi affiliate of the American Heart Association; chairmanof the Pike County Heart Association; director of the McCombChamber of Commerce; president of the Howdycrat Board, a branch ofthe chamber of the commerce; president of the South Mississippigroup of the National Association of Bank Women; and state chairmanof awards and scholarship with the National Association of BankWomen. Mrs. Price also worked with the United Way fund and theAmerican Cancer Society. She has also served as secretary andtreasurer for the Topeka Tilton School’s Parent TeacherOrganization and the Topeka Tilton Band Booster. She also served assecretary and treasurer for the Lawrence County High School BandBooster. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church, where sheserved as clerk, WMU director, Sunday school teacher, discipleshiptraining teacher, hospitality chairman and Bible school.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and her husband, GordonPrice.

Survivors are her sons, Steven Cooley, of Starke, Fla., and ChadPrice, of Starkville; a daughter, Shirley Cooley, of Lake City,Fla.; a stepson, Terry Temple, of Florence; her brothers, JerryRutland, Rex Rutland and Smith Rutland, all of Ruth; a sister,Barbara Adair, of Jayess; her three grandchildren; and agreat-grandchild.
