CLINTON – Coach Scott Brown’s unbeaten Clinton Arrows werefiring on all cylinders Friday night. They dominated the BrookhavenPanthers on offense and defense, hammering out an impressive 34-0shutout on the artificial, Sprint Turf surface.

The Arrows (3-0) got a 3-touchdown performance from KikoThompson. They amassed 268 yards rushing and 70 passing. To hiscredit, Brown pulled his starting offensive lineup early in thefourth quarter after Craig McCraney hit a 37-yard field goal with11:01 left to play. McCraney put all 7 of his kickoffs in the endzone.

By contrast, Brookhaven (1-1) fumbled twice and was interceptedonce. The Panthers were limited to 153 yards rushing and 98passing, victimized by turnovers.

The lopsided score surprised Brown. “For the last five yearsBrookhaven has wore us out with their running game. We had somebreaks go our way and we were fortunate to make some plays.”

Clinton quarterback Elliott Brashier directed the Arrows to a17-0 halftime lead. They got a 39-yard field goal from Will Nationson their game-opening drive. In the second quarter, theycapitalized on a muffed field goal attempt and went 73 yards in 10plays.

Thompson, lining up in the Wild Arrow formation, took the snapand plunged 5 yards to paydirt. He scored again with 40 secondsleft in the half after faking a handoff and it was 17-zip.

Thoughts of a second half comeback went sour when BHSquarterback Duwone Harris was intercepted by Clinton’s Jamund Smithat Brook’s 39-yard line. Three plays later, Josh Dixon raced 23yards for a touchdown.

On their next possession, the Arrows capitalized on Brook’s poorfield possession, taking over at the Panthers’ 34-yard line. On thefifth play, Thompson plunged the final 4 yards over right tackle.It was 31-zip with 5:56 left in the third quarter.

The Panthers moved the ball between the 30-yards lines but nevercame closer to scoring than Clinton’s 14-yard line. They didn’tcross Clinton’s 30 in the second half.

Ole Brook head coach Tucker Peavey was disappointed with thesetback. Their next game is Friday night at archrival LawrenceCounty.

“We didn’t play particularly well and Clinton has a good team,”said Peavey. “They have a lot of talent.”

Offensively, the Panthers got 81 yards rushing from Semmie Smithon 14 carries. Harris rushed for 56 yards and completed 6 of 13passes for 98 more. Trent Powell caught 2 passes for 51 yards.

It was the first time for BHS to be shut out since the 2005season when the Panthers lost 6-0 to Franklin County in theirseason opener.
