JERRY B. KING SR.

Services for Jerry B. King Sr., of Brookhaven, are 2 p.m.Sunday, Sept. 6, at Riverwood Family Funeral Service Chapel withburial in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Brookhaven.

Visitation is Saturday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mr. King, 77, died Sept. 3, 2009, at St. Dominic-JacksonMemorial Hospital in Jackson. He was born on April 6, 1932, toBenton “Sox” King and Alma Burch King.

He was the original owner of “Jerry’s Drive-in” and also workedand traveled doing construction work all over the United States asa pipe fitter. Mr. King was a lifelong democrat and he loved andenjoyed meeting people and talking politics with people. He nevermet a stranger. He was lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge inBrookhaven. He was a giving man and of the Baptist faith. He was amember of Heuck’s Retreat Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Benton and Alma King;his wife, Wilma Williams King; his brothers, Byron King, DonaldKing, Royce King, Cody King, Lenwood “Buster” King and Micky King;a sister, Allowanna Rice; and a daughter-in-law, Joanna DuVallKing.

Survivors are a son, Jerry B. King Jr.; a daughter, Kathy Lairdand husband, Gilbert; a sister, Paulina Nations; his brother- andsisters-in-law, Hulon Williams, of Brandon, Edna Reynolds, ofBrookhaven, and Florence McCall, of McComb; his five grandchildren,Jeffrey Laird and wife, Ashley, Jerry Laird and London Merx,Benjamin Laird, all of Brookhaven, Hunter King and Hailey King, ofSanta Rosa, Calif.; his six great-grandchildren, Adrianna, Riley,Savanna, Olivia, Emma Grace and Isabelle Laird, all ofBrookhaven.

ZENOLLA VIRGINIA SARTIN

Zenolla Virginia Sartin, 90, of Westlake, La., died Wednesday,Sept. 2, 2009, in a local healthcare facility.

Mrs. Sartin was born Dec. 12, 1918, in Rush, Ark., and wasreared in Muskogee, Okla. She worked for a number of years atColumbia General Hospital in the medical records department. Afterthe death of her husband, Mrs. Sartin moved to Westlake, where shehas lived for the past 26 years. She was a member of First BaptistChurch of Westlake. She previously worked for the Eye Clinic ofLake Charles, La., where she handled patient information and filedinsurance. She enjoyed reading and working puzzles, but hergreatest joy in life was spending time with her family andgrandchildren.

Mrs. Sartin is survived by her daughter, Carol Ann Passmore, ofColumbia; son, St. Elmo Sartin Jr. and wife, Linda, of Westlake;siblings, Ruth Foulkes, of Paradise, Calif., Rex Denton, ofFremont, Calif., Tom Denton, of Calimesa, Calif., and Robert Dentonand George Denton, both of Muskogee, Okla.; grandchildren, MarkPassmore, Elizabeth Carol Passmore Boutwell, Emma Charles SartinDowney, Virginia Jane Sartin Henning, Melissa Carol Sartin Conrad,Sherri Diane Sartin May and Maeghan Elizabeth Sartin; and 11great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, St. Elmo Sartin;parents, George W. Denton and Mary Lou Pitchford Denton; andsiblings, Margreet Serena Roork, Mildren Genevia Ferguson, VenitaOnetta Riolo, Bennie Lorene Wells, Norma Jean Cooper, Ella RaeKatherine Shoemake, Iva Edith Earp, Will Uvelda Taylor, Cleo OliahPoquette, Ester Coness Berryhill, Clara Lou Cook and VirginiaMaxine Oberzalek.

Prayer services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, inthe Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Lake Charles. The Rev. JohnnyJohnson will officiate. Visitation Friday will be from 4 until 7p.m. in the funeral home. Visitation Saturday will be in Brookhavenfrom 4 until 8 p.m. and will continue Sunday from noon until thetime of service in the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 2p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, in Harrigill Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr.Robert Hanvey will officiate. Interment will follow in Rose HillCemetery in Brookhaven.
