A search for the suspect in a shooting at the Wesson Pawn Shopthat left one man dead Tuesday culminated early Wednesday morningwhen the alleged shooter surrendered following a brief standoffwith authorities near the Wesson Police Department.

WPD Interim Chief Chad Sills said Wesson Pawn Shop owner DenmonWard, 54, was fatally shot in what appears to be an armed robberyjust after 2 p.m. Tuesday by a white male, believed to be ErikHollie, 24, of Georgetown.

Law enforcement officers in Copiah, Lincoln, Lawrence andSimpson counties mounted a vigilant search Tuesday evening forHollie, who was last seen waving to witnesses before fleeing in aprimer gray Chevrolet pickup truck with an evil clown emblem on thefront.

But the case broke early Wednesday when Hollie parked his pickuptruck in front of Wesson Police Department around 5 a.m.

“He arrived at Wesson PD and was uncooperative. He was sittingin his truck reading his Bible, so our officers began talking tohim,” Copiah County Sheriff Harold Jones said. “Finally we got himto display his hands and to put his weapon on the ground.”
