MHP visibility keeps holiday traffic in check

Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop M officials said the Labor Dayweekend was marred by a fatality, but that otherwise visibilitykept down intoxicated drivers and accidents on the district’shighways and interstates.
“We were out pretty thick,” Troop M Public Relations OfficerSgt. Rusty Boyd said. “We had callbacks every night with extraunits, there would’ve been 10 extra units out every night.”
Boyd said the fatality occurred Saturday around 10:46 a.m. whena 2007 Buick driven by Louis L. Crawford, 77, of Tylertown,collided with a 2003 Ford F150 driven by Heather McCraw, 17, ofFoxworth.
Annette W. Crawford, 82, was transported by ambulance to anearby ball field in
Kokomo, where she was airlifted to Forrest General Hospital inHattiesburg. She died there from her injuries, Boyd said.
“We hate that we had that one fatality,” Boyd said. “We’re justglad that it wasn’t worse.”
Boyd said Troop M wrote a total of 1,262 tickets, 20 of whichwere for driving under the influence. There was also one drugarrest, 20 seat belt violations and 16 child restraintcitations.
