Brookhaven girls post first win

The Brookhaven girls 11-game losing streak came to an endThursday night as the host sLady Panthers defeated the West LincolnLady Bears 10-3 in non-district slowpitch softball action.

Brookhaven (1-11) hosts Franklin County Monday. West Lincoln(9-3) plays in the McComb Tournament Saturday.

“I am extremely proud of the team,” said Brookhaven head coachLisa Covington. “We played a good ball game. We show heart from thebeginning to the end.”

West Lincoln committed 8 errors to Brookhaven’s 5. The Pantherscollected 15 hits to West Lincoln’s 10.

“I hope that this loss would change our attitude so that we wantto turn it around and start winning,” said West Lincoln head coachAndrew Redd.

The Panthers jumped out to a 7-0 lead after 2 innings. Goinginto the fifth, Brookhaven commanded an 8-2 lead over WestLincoln.

Powering Ole Brook with 3 singles each were Stevie Wright andEmily Freeman. Brooke Hosick and Dana Herring collected 2 singlesapiece. Doubling was Christen Benson. Erica Bridwell, RashannaStewart, Shareeka Hill and Carlee Ballard singled.

Keri Easley’s 4 singles directed West Lincoln. Haley Ainsworthand Jessica Franklin each singled twice. Hannah Knouse andStephanie Smith hit safely.

Junior varsity action

West Lincoln put away Brookhaven 10-5.

Heather Moak (4Ks, 6BBs) was the winning pitcher and Freeman(2Ks, 6BBs) took the loss.

Freeman paced the Panthers with a triple and a double. Hill andAllycen Speaks singled.

Pacing the Bears with a double and 2 singles was Peyton Mullins.Malori Hall, Beth Montgomery and Bentley Sills singled.
