The Possum Bowl is back! Friday night at Troy Smith Field, theBogue Chitto Bobcats will host the undefeated Loyd Star Hornets ina big game between Lincoln County rivals. The game kicks off at7:30 p.m.

In other games involving Lincoln County teams, Brookhaveninvades Lawrence County, Enterprise entertains Natchez Cathedraland West Lincoln travels to Pelahatchie.

Bogue Chitto fell to the Wesson Cobras 35-22 last week. TheBobcats, coached by Gareth Sartin, are 1-2 on the season.

Sartin scouted Loyd Star and said their defense is big key totheir success.

“The Loyd Star defense is really quick,” stated Sartin. “Theirlinebackers do a great job getting off the blocks and makingtackles. They have a big offensive line. Their two backs run theball really hard. They control the game like that.

“The Hornets have an outstanding team this year,” continuedSartin. “They will be a good test for us. Hopefully, we willimprove from last week.”

In the loss at Wesson, Bogue Chitto was powered on ByronKersee’s 21 rushes for 120 yards. Cole Laird carried 14 times for72 yards.

Loyd Star (3-0) shut out Richland 35-0 last Friday.

Hornet head coach Ryan Ross said the Bobcats have a talented,athletic team.

“I think Bogue Chitto is a very talented group,” said Ross.”They have athletic guys that do a great job. They’re verywell-coached up front. They are a gritty bunch. They play realhard. It is going to be a challenge for our guys to go in there anda match them.”

In the victory over Richland, senior running back TradareousWilson led Loyd Star’s ground game with 14 carries for 136 yardsand 1 touchdown. Marquis Hayes followed with 14 rushes for 119yards and 2 touchdowns.

Defensively, the Hornets were paced by T.J. Floyd and TravisSorrels with 8 tackles apiece. Sorrels also intercepted a pass andrecovered a fumble.

Enterprise posted its first win of the season last Fridays 48-18victory over Lincoln County rival West Lincoln.

Cathedral (0-1) had an open date last week after getting shutout 27-0 by Loyd Star 2 weeks ago.

“Cathedral is a lot like us,” said Enterprise head coach WayneRogers. “The team that executes will win the game. There is notmuch difference between us. We have three down with injuries and wehave had replaced them.”

The Jackets lost 3 players to knee injuries last week. Theplayers were Brad Prather, wingback/free safety/punter; Matt Greer,special teams/backup punter and Jarrett Todd, widereceiver/linebacker.

“Cathedral has had two weeks to get ready for us,” continuedRogers. “They run a veer offense this year. Their quarterbackthrows the ball real well.”

In the win over West Lincoln, Enterprise was powered by AaronPrather’s 12 rushes for 116 yards. Cody Brister followed with 8rushes for 96 yards. Garrett Greer picked up 102 yards on 6carries.

Travis Leggett directed the Jacket defense with 9 tackles. CodyWhite made 8 stops.

West Lincoln head coach Chris Calcote said Pelahatchie will be atough team to beat. The Chiefs are 2-1 on the season.

“Pelahatchie is probably better on offense than defense,” saidCalcote. “The only team to beat them was Puckett. They will be a60-40 running team. They run a lot of counters and options.

“We have to play good to beat them,” added Calcote. “We have togive a better effort.”

Pelahatchie shut out Noxapator 20-0 last Friday.

In the Bears’ loss to Enterprise last week, Calvin Kees led theway with 15 carries for 121 yards. In the air, De Price completed 5of 14 passes for 110 yards and was intercepted once. Tyler Case ledthe receiving core with 2 catches for 42 yards.

The Bear defense was powered by Josh Reno’s 9 tackles. GrantRushing followed with 6 tackles.
