The unbeaten Brookhaven Academy Cougars face a tough Class 4-AAopponent Friday night when they travel to Centreville Academy tomeet the Tigers for their homecoming in Mississippi Association ofIndependent Schools football action. The game begins at 7 p.m.

In other area academy games, Presbyterian Christian Schoolvisits Copiah Academy and McComb Parklane invades Oak Forest in AAAaction.

Brookhaven Academy pushed its unbeaten record to 6-0 followinglast Friday’s 37-14 win over previously unbeaten Simpson CountyAcademy. Simpson fell to 5-1 with the loss.

Davis said Centreville (4-2) is down but still a good team. TheTigers have won three straight AA state titles.

“Centreville made some turnovers (six) last week against BowlingGreen,” said Davis. Bowling Green beat Centreville 21-0. “They arenot as good as they have been the last two years. They are still agood football team. They love to run the football but are doingmore passing this year. Tailback No. 23 (Zach Sinclair) is the realdeal.

“They like to run a four-man front and usually play man defense.I don’t know what we will get this week.”

Davis said he is pleased with the Cougars progress but addedthey still have a ways to go.

“Our defense has gotten better but we still have a lot of workto do in our secondary,” added Davis. “Our offensive line hasgotten better. We have to continue to get way better.”

In the win over Simpson, Brookhaven junior quarterback ChandlerRogers powered the air game, completing 19 of 28 passes for 277yards and 2 touchdowns. Tripp Jolly led the receiving corps with 7catches for 106 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Making 6 catchesfor 125 yards was Donovan Lorraine.

The Cougar ground game was powered by Rogers with 14 carries for65 yards. Collecting 28 yards on 12 rushes was Jennings Mills.Christian (Bubba) Keene followed with 6 rushes for 24 yards and apair of touchdowns.

Defensively, Lorraine led Brookhaven with 12 tackles followed byJamison Powell with 10.

Copiah Academy (3-3) shut out Central Hinds 34-0 last week andentertains Class AAA foe Presbyterian Christian this week.

The Gallman-based Colonels, coached by Scotty Cline, are 0-1 indistrict play. Presbyterian Christian (5-1) stomped HeritageAcademy 20-7 last Friday.

Powering Copiah in its win over Central Hinds was Kelton Smithwith 11 rushes for 227 yards and 3 touchdowns. Ben Boone rushed 9times for 48 yards followed by Bryce Guess with 6 carries for 44yards.

In the air, Boone completed 3 of 9 passes for 61 yards.

Mike Williams made 7 tackles to direct the Colonel defense.

Parklane Academy whipped Adams County Christian School 48-6 lastweek during homecoming for its third win in-a-row. The Pioneers,coached by Bo Milton, improved to 3-2. Centreville (4-2) fell toOak Forest (5-1) 21-0 last Friday.

In the win over ACCS, Parklane junior quarterback Steven Swindlecompleted 8 of 10 passes for 251 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The Pioneer running game got help from senior Josh Armstreet wholed with 16 carries for 94 yards and scored touchdowns on runs of 3and 5 yards. Chance Schmidt caught a 36-yard TD pass and rushed fora 24-yard touchdown.

The Parklane defense got 4.5 solo tackles and 7 assists fromSchmidt.
