Fifth suspect facing charges in sex assault

WESSON – A fifth suspect in last week’s alleged sexual assaulton the Copiah-Lincoln Community College campus has turned himselfin, authorities said.

Copiah County Sheriff Harold Jones confirmed Wednesday morningthat Jason West of Hazlehurst turned himself in to the CopiahCounty Sheriff’s Department Tuesday afternoon after a warrant wasissued for his arrest.

Jail officials said West was booked on rape charges inconnection with an alleged assault that has already spurred thearrests of four other suspects.

“He’ll have his initial hearing sometime today or tomorrow,”Jones said.

Officials said a freshman female told them she was assaulted inEllzey Dormitory, a men’s dorm, on Oct. 6.

So far in the case, Damonte Ramone Glover, 20, and TimothyGraves and Antonio Davis, both 18, have been arrested and chargedwith rape. Justin Sandifer, 19, has been charged with sodomy.

Co-Lin Public Relations Director Natalie Davis said West, ageunavailable, is also a student at Co-Lin, as are Glover, Graves andSandifer.

Co-Lin officials have praised the work of the campus policedepartment as they have turned over evidence and suspects in thecase. Co-Lin President Ronnie Nettles said Monday that theybelieved the case may be close to wrapping up.
