The Wesson Flea Market is an annual source of fun for familiesand people of all ages, whether they be from Wesson or any of thesurrounding towns.

Flea market organizer Kenneth Furr said vendors, from as far asLouisiana, Alabama and Texas, are coming to Wesson Saturday for the38th year of the flea market. He said that shoppers will be comingfrom all around as well.

“We’re going to have vendors from all over,” Furr said. “Theycome from all over Mississippi and all around.”

Furr said that the flea market, which will feature booths up anddown Highway 51 through the middle of town and on several sideroads, will be a great place for people looking to buy and sellhandmade odds and ends.

“People sell all kinds of things,” he said. “They’ll be sellingjewelry and woodwork, odds and ends.”

Furr said food will only be sold by local vendors, sayingvendors from outside of town will not be allowed to sell edibles inorder to not take a bite out of local profits.

“We had to do that because people come in here from out oftown,” he said. “They might want to sell theirs for less … Ifthey come up here our own people might not be able to selltheirs.”

Officials said a record number of booths have been sold for thisyear’s event, and that record crowds are expected.

City Clerk Linda Dykes said the weather, which is predicted tobe clear and cool, should help with the turnout as well.

“We’re looking for a record-breaking crowd probably, and thefire department has sold more booth space than they ever have inthe past,” she said. “We’re expecting a record turnout, especiallybecause it’s not going to be too cold, but comfortable.”

In addition, there will be a drawing for a hand-quilted,king-sized quilt that will be on display at the Wesson VolunteerFire Department booth throughout the day. The drawing for the quiltwill be sometime after 3 p.m. Saturday.

The proceeds not only of the drawing, but also of the fleamarket itself will go to the Wesson Fire Department, which is anall-volunteer organization. Vendors will be allowed to set upstarting at 5 p.m. on Friday evening, or else they should be thereto set up by 6 a.m. Saturday.
