Services for Dorothy Lucille Taylor Walker are 2 p.m. Saturday,Oct. 24, at Macedonia M.B. Church in Brookhaven with burial inHillcrest Cemetery.

Visitation is Friday from 1 until 5 p.m. at Williams Mortuarywith family present from 6 until 7 p.m. The repast will follow theservice at Serenity House, 511 North Church St.

Mrs. Walker died Oct. 18, 2009, at St. Dominic-Jackson MemorialHospital in Jackson. She was born in New Orleans, La., on Sept. 3,1941, to Mattie Taylor and Oscar Black.

She was joined in holy matrimony to her college sweetheart, theRev. Persia “Percy” Ray Walker, on June 4, 1964. They reared sixchildren.

Mrs. Walker was an honor graduate of Friendship High School. In1959, she went on to Coahoma Junior College on a basketballscholarship. It was here that she received a Most Valuable PlayerAward and statewide attention for her basketball talent. She alsowas voted Coahoma’s Most Popular in 1961. After graduating fromCoahoma, she attended Alcorn A&M College (later renamed AlcornState University), where she graduated with a Bachelor of Sciencedegree in mathematics with a minor in biology. Again, she was votedAlcorn’s Most Popular in 1963. She later received a Master ofScience degree in health and physical education. Mrs. Walker was ateacher and basketball coach at McCullough and New Hebron HighSchools.

Mrs. Walker went on to join her husband in the ministry. Sheco-founded several ministries including Mt. Zion Spiritual Churchand House of Prayer Church. She served as treasurer for theBrookhaven Singing Union for 15 years. She highly esteemed herspiritual growth to Hopewell M.B. Church, St. Mark M.B. Church,Greenwood M.B. Church and Rocky Branch M.B. Church where she was amember upon her death.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her stepfather, T.C.Taylor; and a brother, Elzie Taylor.

She leaves to cherish her devoted husband, the Rev. Persia”Percy” Walker; her children, Dorothy LaPamela (Jerry) Baker,LaPatrick (Yolanda) Walker, Deborah LePetricia (Lenard) King,Deitdre LaPenesia (Waldo) Lilly, Divitta LaPhyllis Walker andDaniel Walker; her siblings, Howard (Rosa) Taylor, of New YorkCity, N.Y., Charlestine Smith, of Los Angeles, Calif., Warren(Augustine) Taylor, of Brookhaven; her grandchildren, Deborah”Happy” King, Barak Walker, D’Anna King, D’Anthony Lilly, D’JohnKing, Denise King, Bedan Walker and D’Adrian Lilly; and a host ofrelatives and friends.
